I would probably go with the Cold Steel Covert Tanto, which is all plastic this is one of the strongest plastic knives ive ever seen or owned. You might want to try SMKW i know they had them on sell last month for some good prices.

Get a G10 Perrin La Griffe. I think there was one for sale on on "Knives FS/T - Individual" a few days ago.

Trilan, first of all, I recommend you consider your local laws regarding knife carry. From your post, I perceive that you are young and purposely trying to pass a "polymer knife" past metal detectors can get you into a whole heap of trouble if you are ever searched. Besides, I doubt that you'll ever need to use a weapon in a hospital. Besides, I have not seen a polymer knife like the CAT Tanto that can be used effectively other than stabbing. For that matter, a pen can do the same thing. I believe each individual has the right to protect themselves in any circumstance, however I recommend you use discretion in your choice.

If you're looking for utility, Busse has made a really nice one, and so has Emerson, but i think they've both been discontinued so you would have to search around for one. Oh, and they're not cheap either.

And I second the advice that you seriously consider your practical intentions for carrying a non-detectable knife. Depending what state you live in, this could prove illegal due to the type of knife, especially in certain buildings, and your age.

I agree with Stompy, check your local laws and I'll say it again and again. Use discretion. I'm not sure how old you are or where you live, but it may be illegal to purchase one in your State, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A MINOR.

im 15 and i live in cali and i may move to nevada in a month or 2 my mom is the one who buys my knives and she says any knife is ok as long as i dont get caught and ive had knives every where and not got caught

Anyone else getting a feeling this is a "I-want-to-imitate-Adam-Sandler" joke?

Maybe you are not kidding trilan_odon. You are however somewhat young to be carrying a knife. Collect them if it is alright with your mom, but leave them at home. You may end up in serious trouble and in the end all of the nice people here at the forum will suffer from different kind of new laws and restrictions.

Be well,

Trilan, I know that at 15, one feels cool carrying a knife. If your mother says it's okay to have them, then keep them at home. Don't put yourself at risk. You may not get caught the first or second time, but if (God forbid) you are put in a situation involving a knife, I can guarantee you will end up in hot water. The law can be tough on a 15 year old caught carrying a knife where he's not supposed to. Please take this into consideration for your own sake.

Trilan, not too cool. Polymer and non-metal knives are illegal in California. Follow the law. I think in California, you can carry any normal folding knife in your pocket as long as its folded. Also remember that a knife is a working tool, not a weapon.

First of all, I think it's great when kids get excited about knives. You might want to use the search function in order to get your answers, since these questions have been asked numerous times. For example, a search of "neck knives" (your other topic) will get 100 hits in the Blade Discussion forum alone. Also, your posts would be much easier to read if you would throw in a complete sentence every once in a while. I would also suggest, with el cid and Comrade Chang, that you don't do anything illegal. I don't know the law in California, but if it is a felony, that will close a lot of doors for you later on. That is something you really need to consider. A few drug interdiction officers I know have said "A drug trafficker has to be lucky every single time, we only have to be lucky once." The same thing is true for any law that someone habitually breaks.

My mum worked as a nursing sister in a large city hospital for close to 15 years and recently retired last year. She's carried a pair if surgical scissors in a front pocket most of those years for "reassurance" for the night shifts. Thankfully, she's never had to resort to using them other than for normal work. I suggest doing the same. Far more socially acceptable than carrying a non-detectable "weapon".

Well, my little E.E. Cummings wannabe, I like Newt Livesay's NRG knife (not the NRGS). Take a look at www.newt.livesay.com

Stay within the law....it's just not worth the risk. Don't jeopordize your future. Maybe your mother should carry pepper spray or some other means of self defense. At your age, you'll only get into some very serious trouble. Please think before you act. Good luck and be well.

If you're really concerned primarily about protection while you're in the hospital, then I'd suggest using your head. In every hospital I've even been in, there are a lot more effective pick-up weapons all around than a plastic knife. And unless you're walking TO the hospital THEN inside, you should have someplace to stash your metal knife before entering the hospital. Which only leaves the time from when you leave your vehicle or bus to entering the building. I'd still think you could come up with something better than a plastic knife for that. Maybe a heavy metal pen? Available at most of your friendly neighborhood Wal-Marts or CVS pharmacies.

So, if this is so why do you need a non-metel knife.

I got into trouble for carrying a dagger when I was a kid. also realize that if your attacker is larger and stronger than you they could very well, just take it from you and use it against you. If you want a really good self defense weapon buy a pair of steel toed boots. Go for the shins. Also a roll of quarters has a lot of uses, use it as a black jack or call the police from a payphone.
