Hello new friends on BladeForums!

I am new to this BF community, but am an active collector involved in other knife-related forums (CKD, TKCL). It's been a pleasure lurking and learning from this site, too.

Now it's time to pull out of the shadows and introduce myself. My name is Jim Cooper and I am fairly new at collecting (Just over a year), but I have 'accumulated' quite a collection of Custom knives in a short time. You'll find a link to my collection below. Comments welcome.

Back on topic--I submit a knife to you that I am REALLY happy to have in my collection. It was made by a now-defunct knifemaker by the name of Hill. E. Pearce (last known from Alabama). It is stunning in it's craftsmanship, and the filework is some of the best I've ever encountered. It is probably a replica of a Mediterranean Dirk or Fighter. Whatever it is, It's simply a great looking knife.

Who out there knows more about this maker who disappeared from the knifemaking scene about 1990?? Let me know.

My Photos and Knives

I dunno anything about the guy....sorry.
Altho I have a few knife mags from around 1987 to 1990, I'll take a look throught hem, see if I run across his name, if i do I'll let ya know.

However, thats is a FINE looking knife.
I bet it feels even better in the hand too...
Be proud, it looks like you have a wonderful knife there.

Actually, I took a look through some of my Knives annuals and found quite a few pictures of knives by Hill Pearce. A lot of them are of the same style of knife that you have, so it must have been one of his popular models. In Knives 83, there are pictures on pages 2, 43, 65 and 183. In Knives 84 a picture on page 121 and in Knives 85 a picture on page 78. That is the last issue that has a picture and the last time he is listed is in the 87 edition.

He is listed as being a maker of high art period pieces. He made folding lockers, Bowies, daggers and fighters. He forged W2, O1 and his own damascus and did extensive file work. Prices ranged from $300.00 to $1200.00.

Thanks KWM for this needed info! I will save those pages and issues and somehow get some copies of them for his work. Yes, this one fits the hand nicely, and it's truly 'period' in style.

I was also impressed with the chisel cut top edge (which isn't false!) as another unique feature, as well as the distinct 'Spanish Notch' cutout.

The only other Pearce I have heard of is from Wayne Reno in CO who has another of his Bowies. Very similar. I have looked up Mr. Hill's info and even tried calling a now-defunct phone number. He deserves reminding praise!:D

I'am not familiar with the maker, but you might check Paul Basch at AG Russell in Springdale Arkansas phone # 1-800-255-9034m. Hope this some help, and welcom to the forum.

Thanks for sharing...and yeah...call Paul as mentioned..I'm sure he can be lots of help!

Welcome to BF, Coop! Great pictures of an incredible knife. Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing. Hint- we love pictures of stuff like this!:D

Dug around and found a few of my knife mags(my dad prolly swiped the rest), but none of those contained any info or pictures.

Sorry again about the wait.

Welcome Jim. I already know via TKCL that we will even be a better group with you here.
I checked out my reference a couple of weeks ago and had not information - sorry.
Regards,
Gus
