These rainforests that I like to explore are so-called 'Gondwanan rainforests'. They have survived relatively unchanged since they grew on the super-continent of Gondwanaland, when Australia was joined to Antarctica, South America etc. These are pretty much the same rainforests that dinosaurs wandered around in. Some of these trees 'could be up to 5,000 years old' according to a rainforest biologist I once asked about it, and even the giant tree ferns (some the height of two-story buildings) could be thousands of years old.
