I thought I'd share this map I threw together that shows the knife stores/companies I know of in the Los Angeles/Orange County area: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1eG2z3y0WRC9Yz3HYmK7UaPhs2JI

The majority of these places I've been to and can vouch for (see the descriptions by clicking individual pins).

Please let me know if there's anything else that would be worth adding to the list! I don't have a lot of experiences with places out in Riverside County, down in San Diego County, or north of LA County.

This is very useful to us Cali residents. Thank you for the great contribution

I just had a chance to visit Grommet's Cutlery (I was out in the inland empire for work) and have updated the map accordingly. They're a very nice shop, especially if you're interested in Benchmades. They have a fair number of Gold Class Benchmades, a ton of discontinued ones, and all of the regular production ones. They're also part of a flagship program of authorized Benchmade service centers; you bring/ship Benchmades to their store and they fix them, using parts provided by the Benchmade factory. The people behind the counter were also very nice.

There is a decent knife store that stocks the main knives, worth having on the list. Downtown Ventura Main Street.
American Flags and Cutlery.
Army Navy Surplus in Simi Valley CA on Royal avenue stocks a few good knives. West of Erringer rd. Smaller, but worth the stop in.

Thanks for the info! I have added both of those to the map with a credit to you in the descriptions.

Thanks for the info! I even see one in my "backyard" I didn't know about...I may have to run an undisclsed "errand" tomorrow. The only good thing about jury duty is getting to check out Ross cutlery during lunch.

This might become exceedingly useful, to the point of demanding to be made sticky, if we could get others involved as contributors to the map. Sort of a GB&U "opinion map" of knife dealers. Even if just the west coast is initially populated, it would spread pretty quickly as people become aware. I think Google's sharing functionality should allow people to make contributions through their Google accounts.

That's a great idea! I could definitely make the map editable by anyone (or editable by anyone with permission after sending me their Blade Forums username, or something). We could turn it into a global map.

After having visited Knife Gallery and having a great experience there, I have updated the map accordingly. (Prior to this visit I had been once before and didn't see anything I liked--things were different this time around!)

Very cool. Anza knives is down near San Diego.

Thanks, just added them! I've owned a few Anzas and they've been great. There's a shop in Solvang (called Solvang Knives) that carries a fairly large selection. Picked this up last week when I was visiting:

An FYI to Anza enthusiasts: I just got off the phone with someone from Anza and they confirmed they have a shop/showroom that people can visit, but that they're only open until 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Has this map been updated recently ? Do you have any information on a knife sharpening place called KnifeAid in Agoura Hills ? Thank you

Just found this thread. Great idea. Subscribed.

Yes, Nordic Knives (used to be in Solvang) is gone. Moved out of CA.

ROSS Cutlery in DTLA

324 S Broadway
Los Angeles, CA 90013
United States.

Prices aren’t great, they do have some obscure finds once in awhile. One of the owners sons is founder of Pro Tech ( so I was told ).

A couple threads below this thread there is a thread about KnifeAid, although I don’t know if it’s the same one you are talking about. Have a read through it:

Thank you, I read the thread and contributed some information - which you already 'liked'.

I'm looking for recommendations to have a large knife (14.5" blade length) sharpened locally - Southern California area.

The Convex edge just needs a touch up but the tip needs some reworking - not broken, just a bad sharpening job (condition is how I purchased it).

I would prefer not to mail the knife - looking to drop off / pick up the same day if possible.

Nothing fancy on the sharpening - just a factory finish. No mirror polish / micro bevels. Nothing changed from the original factory Convex edge.
