Today is publication day for the New Joy Of Cooking....

When my Grandmother, who was a very smart and forward thinking woman, wrote the first “Joy” in 1931 I very much doubt that she could foresee that what my Mother referred to as a “little acorn” would grow into a mighty oak and in various editions sell some 20 million copies and be carried forward by her daughter, grandson and great grandson and his wife.

My son John and his wife Megan have done an absolutely wonderful job on this latest edition. It is, I think, the most comprehensive book on cooking and the culinary arts currently in print.

John and Megan have managed quite successfully to recreate the helpful, easygoing approach to the tasks at hand that were the hallmark of my grandmothers style....

Bladite. Has embedded their stint on CBS Sunday Morning in the thread below.... Drop by and get acquainted with them... I think they are pretty special!

if you like what you see remember the non knife people on your Christmas list who might like or profit from a bit of sage cooking advice....

As a very proud dad I must share that it hit #6 on Amazon....

it is a damn fine Book!

Awesome stuff Uncle E. The wife and I watched the video Bladite posted last evening. Good stuff. If you looked at my November Vacation thread, the wife used the cook book for one of the meals we had. It was very tasty, and we can't wait to make it again.

I have a previous edition. I really like it.

And here is an anecdote that might bring a smile to your face: I was on a business trip to Tirana, Albania back around 2000 or 2001. Our group was staying in a small, family-owned and operated hotel. The two young ladies who ran the front desk wanted to get a hold of an American cookbook. One of my colleagues had a copy of The Joy of Cooking that he gave them. Their English was limited and we didn't know any Albanian, but we had a lot of fun working with them to translate a few recipes into Albanian so they could try them out. I imagine the book still has pride of place in a now 40 year old Albanian woman's kitchen.

We've currently got a copy that Christine's mom used to use. Might be time to get a new edition!

that's great congrats !!! ... and it looks like I will have a new read ... thanks !
