A question about the TBT040 Mini Tom Brown Tracker #4

I had a question about a particular knife that I been considering buying. It's the Mini Tom Brown Tracker #4 TBT040. It's the same size as a Becker BK14 and BK11 basically, and a little bigger than an ESEE Izula, which doesn't seem right for it's design. Does the design of the knife still have functionality despite it's incredibly small size? Or is it more of a collector's knife? It seems the Tom Brown Tracker would need it's length and weight for the design to be particularly useful, making this knife seem a bit Gimicky in theory. Would it be better off to choose a different model from the TOPS neck knife section for a neck/edc type of carry blade? The combination of design and size just seem a little strange to me.

If it does retain a lot of the benefits from the Tracker design at a neck knife size, it sounds like a wonderful knife. I can't find hardly any reviews comparing it to it's bigger brothers, or it against other neck knives.

I gotta tell you man, the Tracker isn't a good design. Mr Brown is a great outdoorsman, but that knife is not very good at anything. It looks cool, but does everything poorly. I have owned one and it works, just not very well. The Tops version is a high quality make, but the design is bad. Get something else.

Welcome to BladeForums!

Don't buy it.

What do want to use your new knife for, and how much would you like to spend? The good people here will get you set up.

Well since the mini Tracker is out of the question, I'm looking for an incredibly strong folder, that can do some similar tasks that a fixed blade can. I don't want to spend much over 150 if that is possible. Few examples that are similar that I am looking for is something like the Cold Steel Rajah II or something like the TOPS CQT Magnum. I EDC carry a few very big folder-blades, and I'm looking for something with more size, and invulnerability to take on tasks. So thickness, and Carbon steel is main specifications for that particular knife.

I was curious, is light chopping out of question for such a particular knife?

i want to just say thanks to you guys for your opinion on the tom brown tracker.... i hate the design as well, it's like jack of all trades idea, that's not very good at any of them. i have to talk sooo many people out of that design, that I feel like maybe I'm the one who's wrong. thanks for the vindication guys. cheers to common sense.

1) Folders are not invulnerable. They fold.
2) I believe Cold Steel recommends against using folders (including the Rajah) for chopping.

Is there a reason why you are not considering a fixed blade other than the Tracker? A fixed blade would solve all your problems, and there are countless fixed blades out there.
