A question about trappernuts

Hi guys

I bought a Rough Rider 5 blade peanut a few months before Christmas and its been just the right size and shape for my hands, however I've found the most used blades are the clip point and full length spey blade and I'd like to get something nicer with that blade configuration on a peanut frame.

I've looked around and the only choice seems to be the Case trappernut but the recent Case thread has had my little brain cells working.

I don't want to seem like I'm bashing Case having never handled them, but as there seems to be some legitimate concern about the consistency of their quality and the fact I live in the UK which makes transatlantic returns quite expensive even if only on postage makes me cautious about getting one.

Could anyone recommend either an online dealer who would be willing to pick a good knife or another company like say GEC that make a similar knife?

Have you thought about the Case Tiny Trapper? Pretty similar knife, size-wise. Actually slightly smaller than the peanut and has the typical trapper handle shape (rounded bolster on one end, squared bolster on the pivot end). Only reason I mention it is that they are more common than the Trappernut pattern and so may be easier to find in a handle material you like.

Here's a pic of my one Tiny Trapper beside a Peanut, to give you an idea of the size. This particular one has a Wharncliffe secondary rather than a spey.

I'd second the tiny trapper suggestion. When I looked for a trappernut I had a hard time finding a handle material I liked.

Just curious - how thick is a five blade peanut. I can't even imagine!

I have looked at the tiny trapper while I was looking at the trappernuts, but after some thinking and measuring had to decide against it.

I know its only a small difference in length, but it would be enough to take my grip from a decent 3 fingers on the peanut, to barely 2 and a bit with a tiny trapper which I don't think would be enough even with the light usage you'd expect in an office environment.

jone,

My RR five blade peanut about a 1/2" thick across the springs, or about the same as my Victorinox farmer. I relies that sounds quite thick but the shortish length plus the serpentine shape of the pattern seem to negate a lot of the negatives of such a thick knife.

Stareagle might i suggest you check out H-H web site here in the UK for a Case Old Red Mini Trapper.
Regards Bob..

Gec has the farm boy, in their tidioute line.
clip and spey, even in nitebrite (glows in the dark)!
