So... Recently I bought a Kendar knife. At first I thought it was OK but as I started using it, everything went South:mad:. I will tell you why. Its a sharp knife, yes.. But the amount of bladeplay just is annoying back to forth and side to side.. Also the blade steel is VERY soft.. My recommendation is not to buy it..

All I found in a Google search is eBay -- Folding knives from KANDAR for under $20. If these are the knives you are pissed about.....What do you expect!

Thanks for the heads up.
I was debating whether to get a Sebenza or a Kander and just happened to find this post... ;)

You wouldn't be surprised. I wouldn't be surprised. Few here would be surprised. Maybe OP is a complete knife newbie with no frame of reference. I don't know. I do know that there is no reason to be douche to a new member (or anyone else) who has done nothing to deserve it.

I don't think people are trying to be mean to OP at all. I think they are just trying to let him know you get what you pay for. And a 20.00 knife is gonna have a lot of issues. So just calm down and don't make it something more then it's not. Happy day have a happy day:)

EstonianNoob-welcome to the forum
You do have to be careful buying knives in that price range. Often you get what you pay for, but there are a couple exceptions so do your research. The good news is that you don't have to pay that much more to get into some knives that will serve you well.
Better luck on your next knife. This is a good place to ask ?'s before buying that next knife-both general and brand and model specific.

Thank you for your efforts to warn others.

No sweat, Estonian Noob--we've all bought knives that we ended up being disappointed by. I guess chalk it up to a lesson learned and experience gained. Craytab made a good suggestion about the Ontario.

Another suggestion for just a few $$$ more would be CRKT. They make some nice knives for the money.

Welcome Op, sorry for your bad experience, you have a wealth of information here, you just have to sift through some of it. Another suggestion in that price range is a Rat 1. Aus8 steel, it will take a great edge and hold it well. Best of luck!

A $20 knife will have a lot of issues? If a Kershaw, probably no lockbar surface deformation you'll find on some $400 titanium folders without steel inserts I'll bet...

Not to mention an 8cr13 edge will likely outlast some of the CPM or Carbon stuff, or at least be no different... Let's just say the strictly linear cost-quality-performance ratio is more opinion than fact in today's knife world...

Seriously? I think you'll find this is the wrong place for your trolling.

You can't be serious. It objectively doesn't outlast most CPM and carbon steels.

There are some knives that can serve you well on a tight budget. When you get below a certain amount you really do get what you pay for. If you do alot of reading and research on the forums you can educate yourself with some valuable knowledge to avoid disappointment and wasting your money. The used knife market is a great way to get high quality knives at bargain prices. Welcome to the forums and sorry about the disappointing knife purchase.

Actually I have some pretty good (for my needs) sub-$20 knives. Case Sod Buster Jr, couple of Rough Riders, Victorinox Classic SD. I paid just over $20 for my first Vic Alox Cadet. I got a Kershaw Chive blem from Kershawguy for $15 and it's just fine (a tiny scratch on the blade was the blemish).

So price can certainly be a factor, but it alone does not imply a bad knife. If you find an inexpensive knife from a company with a good reputation it can be a very good value.

So thanks, OP, for letting people know that about that one particular brand perhaps not being of good quality. For those on a budget, $20 is not something to just throw away.

Apparently Kandar knives are made in Poland and primarily marketed in the EU. The OP is, I presume, from Estonia. So this information may be more useful to other EU members than to those in other areas.

Welp, since my post was removed from this discussion because of another member's insults I'll repost the relevant part of my post:

"OP, sorry you bought a crap knife. It happens to most new people.* When you are new to the knife game it is best to do some research on a brand before you purchase. Ask a question in general if you must. I've never heard of this company. I doubt you will find much info here on them and there is a reason for that. Had you asked I would have said no way. Buy an Ontario utilitac II for $5 more. "

Me included.
