Photos A Walk in Nature

Literally no place in the world I’d rather be, than up in the woods around my grandparents house in Northern VT. So many familiar streams and area up there, it’s the most nostalgic place for me. Me and my cousin used to love exploring around, fishing, catching bugs, building forts, etc. when we were kids. And now I get to bring my kids up to those same places and build some of those same memories for them. 😁

It’s not the most beautiful place in the world, and my pictures won’t do it any justice, but it holds a special place in my heart. And while I’ve lived in NY my whole life, up there just feels more like home. I’m sure my Nana’s cooking has a lot to do with it too. 😁

Wonderful looking country

Todays simple plan, a small trek alongside the Thames taking in the nature and cooler air.

Then get a haircut and a coffee in Abingdon.

Next toddle along to a free music festival in a pub garden to watch a very loud and very excellent band that I know.

My plan went too plan which is unusual.. 🤣

The stream and river look great

From the tamed banks of the Thames to the still wild banks of of the Patawomeck (Potomac) 🤣
(It was probably actually clear-cut right up to the banks before conservation efforts)

Seneca Creek was high and muddy after recent thunderstorms. I broke my pole and had to go up the creek WITH a paddle…

Turned around at the first riffle. I suppose I could have hopped out and pulled the boat up past it, but I didn’t.

Saw this wee thing on the bank on my way back downstream towards the Potomac:

Found a piece of bamboo in the water, and used it to pole myself upstream in the river.

That white speck over the bow is an egret. I saw a cormorant catch a fish again, but I didn’t…

Enjoyed catching up on your outings amigos :)

We got back this evening safe and so
und.
A real adventure :)
I hit some rocks with my propeller because I was taking pictures for the Porch and not paying attention :D, we got rained on all night last night, got eaten by horse flies exploring the marshy Tay canal on the way to the small town of Perth and ate LOTS of fish lol 🤣

Oh, and Toby went on full attack mode while inside a lock
He saw a dog on the ground and next thing we know he is jumping out like at tiger only to miss the edge of the lock and do a belly flop inside the canal.
Crazy dog 🤪

Looks like an adventure Dan, I'm glad Toby can swim! :)

Thanks Jack :)
Yes he is a good swimmer however this event has me thinking of getting him a lifejacket.
I always wondered how bad the mosquitoes and biting flies were on your trips, but didn’t want to ask and spoil the idyllic mood of your posts 🤣

I guess that you mentioned it here means it isn’t usually much of a problem :)
The can "ruin your reverie" for sure ;):)
It's not much of a problem normally up until sunset. At that time we get inside Serena and put the screen on the companionway door attached with velcro.
The ride through the marsh the other day was another thing ... thoise biting flies were really annoying.
Diana and I were swinging towels left and right almost constantly :D
Looks like a great trip despite prop damage and Toby's mishap.
Gracias :)
Yesterday evening got the prop fixed, changed the engine oil and the lower gear oil in our outboard.
These chores do stressed me out as I am not mechanically oriented by nature so I am relieved is all done now and we ready for the weekend :)
An abundance of wildlife or should I say insects today and wonderful scenery and I havent even seen a thousandth of what there is here.
Wonderful Johnny , even if the insects were after you too :)

Now we are ready for our next adventure :D

One summer when I was a teenager I worked for a laboratory collecting insect samples from test plots laid out in various salt marshes around the region. The biting flies could be really annoying and painful, and could bite right through your teeshirt 😫🤣. Spraying laboratory alcohol on each other didn’t seem to deter the flies much, but sure was fun…

Enjoying the outdoors navigating in the 1000 islands national park.

Visited Camelot Island after two years from our first adventure in this region.

This time though, our daughters were not with us … empty nest looms closer now and it’s difficult at times.

The Cherry River Marsh, Magog Qc
Small world! I may have mentioned this before, but when I was a kid in the 1970s I used to vacation on Lake Memphremagog, in Canada, just a little north of Georgeville, about 9 miles south of Magog. Some neighbors here in Maryland had bought what used to be a youth camp there, and we would stay in one of the cabins. It looks, based on Google Earth, like it has been turned back into a camp.

Is that the mountain with the ski resort in the background of your picture? I remember riding the ski lift to the top one summer, for the view.

Hi buddy
Small world 😎
Yes, the mountain in the background is Mont-Orford. Ski lift is shut down during the summer but they start it for 1 week during fall. The colors are amazing. Mont Owl's Head is also in the area.

I almost miss DC, but a picture of the Dalecarlea aqueduct makes me feel the summer humidity.

You are a brave soul to be outside this time of year.
We have actually had an unusually cool summer so far. Mostly highs in the upper 80s with the occasional lower 90s (although no break from the humidity), instead of the typical upper 90s with the occasional 100.

I just got in from cutting the grass when I saw your reply though, and yeah it’s still hot. What you generously attribute to bravery I would more realistically call stupidity 🤣.
