Ok I'm getting one of the two... I like the way both of them look but wish the a1 was thinner.. i like everything about it except how thick it is... would it be a hard knife to regrind? Would the s1 cut/slice a lot better or not much of a difference... looking for a knife that can do it all out in the wilderness... anyinfo would be good thanks

Try to hold in hand before purchasing.
For me the S1's handle is way to thin. A1 is a beast of a blade in a good way!

Yea it's more the cutting performance that I am interested to know about the a1... I know it's a thick blade but I would like a good slicer.. something that could do some fine woodwork if I needed to. Although not ideal would it preform well at a thinner knifes job? If so then a1 no doibt.. just don't want something to bulky to cut and get super sharp

What's fine woodwork? The A1 can do feather sticks and notching just fine. For example, fire building or shelter construction. But it's not a good whittling knife. No 6" blade is, though, so that's probably not what you're asking.

Do u have both? Sounds to me like the a1 has more to offer if u are comfortable with the size.

I have an A1 and an F1. Couldn't justify the middle one, given I have the other two. The A1 excels at the stuff I like to do while backcountry camping (instead of using a hatchet): splitting wood, fire making, constructing wooden furniture or structures, that sort of thing.

But I never take the A1 on its own; it's too big for whittling, or comfortable food prep. I always have a smaller blade or folder too. Although given the size of the S1 I'd probably treat it the same as the A1, and carry a small blade as well. If you're going to have a 3-4" knife on you as well as the Fallkniven, then I'd suggest to go big! Get the A1!

The S1 is an inbetweener in my opinion. It is too big to do small things and not really big enough to handle the big jobs. OK it can handle some big jobs but it is a bit of a compromise especially with its F1 like handle for its size. Like Dangerously said, it is better to have an A1 and an F1 or something in that size and smaller. The A1 is no slicer. It is a heavy duty chop and hack knife. The F1 is light and easier to use for food prep and smaller tasks.

Yes, I have an F1 and an A1. I purchased them after considering the points already made. No I do not regret my decision.

+1! I have three F1's and an S1. The S1 is a great knife, and with a folding saw is more than adequate to build shelters, furniture, etc. However, the handle is ridiculously small for a knife of this size and it is too light to chop effectively. I am about to buy an A1 to replace it.......I really regret the S1.......

And I personally am dying to get a S1. The F1 is to small at times and the A1 is to big sometimes. The S1 I think will be juuuusst right. I am a fan of 5" outdoor blades. I love the handles on Falkniven's and Res-c from Busse in the wet and snowy environment I live in.

Wish I could buy them all that would solve the problem.. I am also considering a bark river gunny but for some reason the a1 won't let me take my eyes off of it

Lol. I would get the A1 then. If your "feeling" thats the one, it performs big time in the woods and in or at camp.

I have several Bark Rivers. They're ok. I'd get the Fallkniven instead, for sure. Maybe it's not quite as pretty, but the Fallkniven will perform like crazy, and has way more consistent production.

Well thanks I just may not feel like I'm making the wrong choice haha.. a1 is still one of the best looking knives to me though I like normal lol

Gonna be a week or so but if i could. It right now it would def be the a1... not familiar with sharpening convex edges but i guess I'll learn! Might go ahead to the sharpening side of forumns and bug them about it haha.. I will update when I purchase... is there anyway I can follow this thread so I don't have to search for it?

Yeah , subscribe to it. Up top in thread tools.

5 F1's
3 S1's
1 A1

They are all very good knives. Like said earlier , S1's handle is a little thin , but great size blade.
A1 is heavy-duty , feels heavy to carry around all day , Imo.
I gravitated back to the F1 just because it's such a handy , lightweight knife.
If your gonna get the A1 ( at not a nosebleed price I hope) you'll be happy with it.

Sharpening convex is not hard to learn. At all.
