I'm new to the forum. Is there a glossary for the abbreviations that seem so common here?
Thanks.

I don't think we've ever put them all together, because there really are quite a few. Some are standard abbreviations, some are internet abbreviations, and some are specifically knife-oriented.

There are previous threads with a few answers to the same question, but nothing extensive or definitive. So. Let's do it here! I found a few old threads and sequenced the information, added a few of my own, and referenced three online dictionaries. Any others, please post, even if you don't know the meaning -- those are the ones newbies particularly need.

Something someone else said at a recent knife show, and I just picked up on it on the net

FB, fixed blade. Haven't seen anyone else use it.

Gosh, that's fast. Thanks so much. Maybe the abbreviation glossary could find a special home so that newbies will see it and would not be intimidated by the jargon.

We shall see.
I will continue to add to it.
Maybe we can find a good home for a more or less complete list.

DA = Double Action or Dual Action, typically referring to auto knives. Also, they mean different things, just to add to the fun.
One refers to OTF (out the front) openers and the other to side openers (is there an abbreviation for that?).
all da best,
