Apologies if this is not the appropriate sub-forum ... I'm researching D-guard fighting knives similar to the Treeman Combat Bowie and Busse Mistress but for roughly half the price. Not knuckledusters ... D-guards. No need for fancy materials or exotic steels, just something generically tough and designed for H2H specifically (no bushcraft). Can anyone point me in the right direction of custom makers who offer such a model? Thank you in advance.

OK....found it......it's an 'EDMF' aka 'Eight Dollar Mountain Foundry' piece made in 01/2013, SN 2027, by David and Elaine Sandberg. Alas, the company is no longer in business but the price-point was what you're looking for. Dave's knife blades were ground from L6 saw-blade steel but I've seen photos of his handles affixed to Randall blades, even a Lan-Cay bayonet blade.

They do have the 'knucks' on the bow but they could easily be ground off since the handle/guard is heavy cast aluminum. This is just an example of the many blade-styles that were made.....I've always been a sucker for a trailing-point/Persian-style blade. ;)

This blade was ground by John Greco out of 8670 steel....

Thank you, Dawkind ... the Marchand blade is beautiful, but at $1400 it's a bit beyond my pay grade. I'll add EDMF to my search list for used/discontinued models. Many thanks again!

The EDMF knuck / D guard knives have gained a big following with military collectors, so prices are up there now.

Another option is having a good factory knife rehandled. That was a popular option a few years ago. It's sort of hard to find any good custom D guard under $400 now even used.
