Some of you might already know this, but for the newcomers here is a little information about my knives.
Each blade is individually hand ground from O1 high carbon tool steel. (I do offer some models in 154CM, CPM S30V, and 440C). By grinding each blade individually I can offer changes such as longer blades or handles, unlike makers who have their blades water jet cut for them in quantity.
I do every step of making them in house, with the exception of the leather sheaths, my brother makes those.
I also welcome customer designs, they are normally priced the same as a standard model of the same size.
I’ve been doing this for over 12 years full time, and I did it part time for 3 years before that.
If you have any questions, feel free to post them here, or email me at

Thanks, John. You make a good product at a good price!! The JKs I have have become sme of my favorite knives, and I have a lot of different knives. The JKs are just so handy and feel good using them.

I love my JK Knives! John does a wonderful job not only with the knives themselves but with communication throughout the process. I've ordered standard models and modified models, and every single time has been a pleasure. Thank you, John!

I've mentioned multiple times before, but my Bluegill is my most carried fixed blade out of the ~20 or so I own and all but a few are from custom makers.

Please excuse the lousy picture, I snapped a couple of quick pics yesterday during a morning woods walk and this was the better one. John does make a good knife. I really enjoy using my Michigan Trail knife. The design is pretty much perfect for my needs and it holds a good edge.

Thanks for your replies!

Another long time satisfied customer here. I’ve lost track of how many JK Knives that I’ve purchased over the years, many of which are my own designs that John brought to life. He’s a first rate craftsman!

Thanks! If I remember correctly, you got your first knife (Hikers Backup) from me in 2007, which makes you my oldest customer.

Can you post more pictures of this knife? Looks great!

I know I went from zero to four in about a year. With another on order. These knives are an addiction

I have several of John's knives, and I don't even carry a fixed blade regularly. But you don't have to use them to KNOW they are a quality product!

I'm sooooo over the moon excited for the upcoming friction folders :)

JK, how did you start making knives? I mean, what led you toward it, how did you learn the skills necessary to enter into the trade full time, all the juicy details please!

I started out grinding power hacksaw blades into things that resemble knives, still have one here somewhere. Then I bought the book $50 Knife Shop, and I was hooked. I started using real steel, and bought a 1” x 42” belt grinder, and used oak from pallets for handles. I used a homemade charcoal forge for heat treating. When I lost my job of 37 years in 2008, I decided to get serious, bought some better equipment, and started selling them.

Thanks for posting about your knives JK, interesting on how you started, I edc different style knives, mainly larger traditional slip joints but I do edc small fixed blades at times with a 3" blade give or take, all my fixed blades are production knives and it would be nice to have a custom, I'll watch your forum and website going forward

I plan on making knives when I’m shutdown in December for my annual January sale, keep an eye out for updates.
