Hey guys,

I've seen a few people mention the KMG could use a better workrest. Figured I'd make a separate thread to share my recent purchase.
A friend actually told me about it, great timing- as I was just about to look for someone to make me one.

Some nice welds- not many people will tig weld parts in this price range these days.

The full system: DD Workrest

Height adjustable with tons of articulation

Table configured vertical. *Note* I was in a rush to snap the shot, before the rain started really coming down. If you flip the mount upwards, the table will sit in line with the platen surface.

Here is the standard rest with some tilt. About max for this particular one.

This is the extreme workrest- I was able to get just under 7* out of it. Actually think I could get even less.

The Small Wheel Workrest

Some angle to it

And tilt

The extreme angle set at 15*. Going to take some adjusting to get used to, but I am excited to get smooth on the grinds.

The rest isn't super heavy duty, however for what I've been doing- it's about perfect. I've gotten some rust here and there, but it's easy to clean off.
The small work rest could benefit from a slightly larger table, but still a lot of working surface. Can't say it's completely replaced the factory workrest, as I still use it for the heavy stock removal.

Nice looking work rest. Looks like it will do just about everything a you would ever need in a work rest. I didn't see the extreme in the listing. Was that a special order?

It was a semi-special order. He does make them, but I don't think he makes enough to post on his ebay page. You'd have to contact him directly for availability.
What was the combination that you ordered? I looked it up at:

What is shown there isn't like your picture. Did I get the location right? Thanks for your post. I think that I want one too!
Yes, that's the exact one I have. The extreme angle rest is another version from him that he doesn't list on ebay.

It's an awesome rest, and Don is a super nice guy. I've talked to him on the phone a few times, and just recently ordered a slightly larger table for the small wheel system. He seems open to custom orders, so long as you are willing to wait.

From what I have gathered, is he's been making the work rests a little while but hasn't made any extra effort putting it out there. This single upgrade really added to the flexibility of the KMG imo. Don't want to sound like I'm working for him, but if something is worth mentioning- I like to share. A friend told me about him, when I mentioned possibly having someone custom build me a workrest.

It's not perfect, but it works much better than me stacking pieces of angle iron together and bolting a 123 block to it.

I've been looking at those for a while and thinking about ordering. Thanks for the review and recommendation; I just ordered the last one he had listed on ebay!

Gotta echo Mud here, its the nicest work rest ive used and ive used most. Donald is a hell of a nice guy as well.

If you follow his instagram page you really see how nice his work is, gorgeous tig welds, surface grinds everything. Everything on it is built clean and solid.

That's beautiful work! Some really nice rests. The only thing I would question is the type of set screws. Wouldn't the kind with a little handle be easier to work with? Might not work on all the pivots, but for most it would, wouldn't It?

It could, but I don't adjust them enough to warrant it. Those handles are expensive too. The functions of the rest would likely be inhibited by levers.

He's got some great looking grinding jigs listed on his Instagram site as well. I might have to give one of those a try to.
