I have let on that I am a sucker for a bearded axe. I came across this one made by BeaverCraft. Ukraine. You can see from the picture it is a belt hatchet. They have a storefront on Amazon but they do not sell this bearded hatchet there so I will order it direct, if I decide to get it. I have one question, It is made from 1066 carbon steel how does that workout for Axes and Hatchets? Given all of the Russian armor left in the battlefields of Ukraine I wonder if the steel from them is being used in Beaver Craft's woodworking tools, and bushcraft knives and axes. 🤔 They have open curved spoon carving knives. My German speaking Ukrainian Great Grandfather on the maternal side (a German settler) always carved his own wooden spoons. He died before I was born but I heard stories of him making them from the family, my Sister has the only one we have left of all of those he carved. I learned later this is a cultural thing in that region. The farmers did not have forks, and they used their belt knives to eat with and they carved their own spoons.

They have the 3 compact Hatchets they can be had either with the handle installed or just the axe head.

I doubt they are using the armor of dead tanks and armored vehicles. I don't think 1066 was even used on WW2 tanks. Modern armor is usually something much more exotic.

The older BMT's have solid plate armour, as do the T-54's after that I am not sure. Ukraine has large iron ore deposits. Their steel mills are located in the South East part of the country. I was reading up on what is happening to the wrecked Russian Armour, everything that can be is being cut up and recycled. So I suppose that at best Beaver Craft tools are made with recycled Russian and Ukrainian armour. I have ordered electronic parts from Ukraine for a long time, Soviet mil spec, and real cheap.

In Eastern Europe at least 1066 steel is used to make Railway Rails, truck springs, grinding wheel spindles. Machine chucks. and heavy duty edged tools.

They are not made from used armor in any meaningful degree other than what may be purely incidental due to the steel recycling process. To that end any axe made from recycled steel in any country plausibly might have some small amount in it from such a storied location and there's no way to tell. 1066 is fine for axes. Anything between 1045-1080 tends to work nicely. Beavercraft has a history of stealing/knocking off designs from small tool makers in the green woodcarver space so I would not support them on those grounds, personally.

OK that is just the sort of information I was looking for. Being an Amatuer Radio operator we fight and endless battle with Chinese counterfeit parts. I will not purchase anything from an outfit the does this type of piracy.

This is interesting I was looking at Gränsfors Bruk from Sweden. They have the small hand Axes I have been looking for. Sadly they have no eCommerce linked to US payment systems.
Nobody I can find in the States actually sells their axes. Mr. Heavyclaw might this line of axes be a good edition to what you already have? I would be first in line to purchase either of these 2 hand axes.

I have this carving set and other curved knives from this brand, they are excellent. The ax is not yet within my reach, but I would like to have it.

If memory serves correctly that long-handled model is one of the designs they knocked off.

What about Strongway Tools from Ukraine (also sells on Etsy) They have a couple of small bearded hatchets that are real attractive. I bought some small carving hatchets and Adzes from them a while back. I am very impressed with the quality and how well they carve wood. I started buying from Ukraine to help these brave people keep Democracy alive in the world we live in today.
