Advice needed: Replacement for my Scorpion?

I need a replacement for my Streamlight Scorpion. I loved everything about this light: size, brightness, etc.. except for the run time. 1 hour for a set of lithiums was killing my pocketbook, so I traded the Scorpion for a knife.
I've read through this forum and candlepowerforums and now my head is spinning. I've found a couple of lights that may fit the bill: Pelican Steathlite, Princeton Blast, Rage, UKE 2L...
Can anyone give me some advice as to something that is about the same size as the scorpion, same output as the scorpion, but with a longer run time? Maybe 2-3 hours or so?
Thanks
Walter

I think you will be hard pressed to find a light similar to the Scorpion that has a 2-3 hour burn time. You would probably be better off going with a rechargeable light if you use it that much. The new Sure Fire G2 has been out for a short time. I bought one about 3 weeks ago, and it is a good light. It is brighter than my Scorpion and also weighs less since the body is polymer (Glock fans will love this one). The Sure Fire sight is showing a modification to allow the G2 to be used as a rechargeable, so that may also be an option.
As far as other lights go, the Princeton Tec Rage is a great little light, and so are the UKE Penlight, and Pocketlight. They offer great light output and good burntime, and since they use AAA batteries, they are relatively inexpensive. The UKE 2L is a good light, but the problem is the problem you would see is the battery life.

The UKE 2L does last longer than the Scorpion or any of the surefires using the standard (P60) lamp. All of the other lights run just under 1 hour, the 2L runs about twice that. It is also dimmer. You could also get a UKE Q40, a 4 AA light that is just a bit bigger than the scorpion, but last over 3 hours.

So are you more concerned with size or brightness or just battery run time?

Surefire 6R with an extra battery. Keep em charged and you'll have 2 hours daily burn time. The initial cost is about 3 times the Scorpion, but you won't have to worry about batteries.

I like the Streamlight enough to buy the batteries by the half gross.

I've been eyeballing those G2's as well! If they add a rechargeable unit, won't it be bigger? I'm looking to replace my Scorpion, but I want something of about equal size, and brighter is always better!

Thanks for the replies.

Would you believe I never considered a rechargeable, but now it makes sense.
I'm looking at the Surefire 6R (stjames sugg) the G2 with the recharge upgrade( phillip sugg) or the 8XN looks like a great value with the AC/DC smart charger, 2 batteries, looks like it will be bigger but I don't mind.

If anyone has the 8XN let me know how you like it.

Oh, I bought the Princeton Tec Rage Blast just because they are so inexpensive.

Thanks again,

Walter

I think by what Walter and Hank mention I would wait until the E2's come out. They will be a 2 cell version of the E1, as bright (or brighter) as the regular P60 but in a smaller case.

I have a 8NX and it is nice. It is a bit brighter than a Scorpion or even a 6P. But it is about twice the size and weight. I really like the beam though. At 20 feet it has a nice round center spot about 1.5 feet wide, with another area of about 4 feet wide at about 1/2 the center brightness.

The G2 or any of the rechargeable Surefire line get a bit dimmer than the lithium versions. They use a 6R lamp rated at 50 lumens as opposed to the P60 rated at 65 lumens. They make conversion kits for most of the lights, but it is cheaper to by a true rechargeable one like the 8NX, or at least buy a 6R to start with. I believe the rechargeable kits are about as much as the light itself, maybe more.
