Hi all,

I would like to ask the experts about their oppionion regarding this knife.

Could be a R. W. Loveless, but it could be also a cheap China knock-off.

Thanks very much for your pretious expertise fellas,

Martin

After doing some research:
I smell 🐟...

Yeah, so, the conclusion: The knife shown in my first post above was offered 2nd hand for 290US$ on a forum.

After doing some research I found the same kind of knife on AliExpress.

Means some son of a donkey is playing the usual fraudster's game.

Be careful out there, mates.

And thanks very much for your input.

Best,

Martin

First of all, do some research on your own. There must pictures of genuine loveless knives just a few clicks away.

Now then, my observation is that the knife you have pictured has no proximal taper, that is, the tang does not tsaper in thickness from the blade back towards the thong hole. One of the iconic Loveless touches on his drop point hunter was that the tang was thinner at the back than at the hilt.

My in-expert opinion is that the knife you are interested in is not a genuine Loveless knife.

You started a thread the other day asking the basic question about the pros and cons of several blade grinds. Come on man, that’s entry level knife enthusiast stuff and there’s boats loads of info just a few clicks away! Take your own advice and try reading more and posting less.

I spend a lot of time at home by myself due to several disabilities, spelling is one of them. . . .Some stuff is just me talking to myself outload onscreen in a sense. I have an interest in knives but that is about it. Sorry about that.

In the case of the OP looking at a possible Loveless knife . . . that could be a significant expenditure. Looks like he got a lot of good advice. The pool of knowledge and experience on this board is wide and deep.

To get back at this, when looking at Loveless anything, be sure to check out the makers mark. This knife says “Designer” under his name. He never used that, his will say “Maker” and there’s others as well due to collaboration knives and others made in the shop while he was still helping (but Jim Merritt was making the knives).

For future reference, a few Loveless knives can be found around/below $5,000. Nothing that's an authentic Loveless can be found for $290.

Beretta makes a Loveless Hunter Fixed Blade Knife for around $100 with the "R.W. Loveless Design" mark. Gerber has made some Loveless designs in the past too.

The Gerber, Beretta and a Lone Wolf version are authorized by Loveless.
