I cleared this e-mail through Mr. Randall before I posted it here.

I don't wish to upset or offend anyone, but I felt like I needed to offer some resouces to help.

After being in ministry for several years we have gathered and continue to gather resources to help people and familes.

This is a resource that can help everyone right now.

I have no affiliation what so ever with this group and will not benefit in any way from anyone using them, only that I am blessed to be able to help others.

Everyone is going through something in their lives right now; my own immediate family is not excluded.

I just feel this is some way my wife and I can help the other members of the forum by providing resources in the troubled times we now live in.

The link below will take you to the site and you can punch in your zip code and find the nearest location that handles Angel Food.

These are quality foods, not out dated cans or off brands.

Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States. The program began in 1994 with 34 families in Monroe, Georgia (between Atlanta and Athens), and has grown to serve hundreds of thousands of families every month across 35 states. Angel Food Ministries crosses denominational lines and has spread the good news of the gospel of Christ through salvation tracts that are placed in each food order.

Blessings by the box
Angel Food is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box at $30 per unit. Each month's menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $60. Comparison shopping has been done across the country in various communities using a wide range of retail grocery stores and has resulted in the same food items costing from between $42 and $78.

Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The food is all the same high quality one could purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe.

Also offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken and pork. Many participants in this bonus program appreciate the expanded choices. Additionally, there is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can receive, and there are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants must adhere. Angel Food Ministries also participates in the U.S. Food Stamp program, using the Off-Line Food Stamp Voucher system.

It's both a Bargain and a Blessing!

I have zero problem with charity. In fact, IMO that's where churches should play the biggest role: in helping those who are down on their luck. Even Ayn Rand believed in charity. What I don't believe in is "charity" at the point of a gun. Appreciate the post.

Man this is a really great resource. I have a couple of buddies that have families going through really hard times right now. Every time I talk to them lately they have some new horror story about not being able to make this payment or losing this, it's really heartbreaking. I might be eating Ramen on the regular these days, but it's only because I want my wife to be able to eat whatever she wants. We're not hurting for money to the point where I feel we deserve (for lack of a better word) to take advantage of this, but those friends of mine are. The Thanksgiving packages they're offering look like a ton of good holiday food for very little money. I was going to try to do something for them, just getting some basic stuff to help them put together a Thanksgiving dinner, but looking at these prices, I'm going to go ahead an order these for them. This is easily 3 times as much as I would have been able to afford at the store. Good stuff. Thanks so much for posting this.

Wow, there is one near here. I can save money and buy more knives now. Thanks.

Thank you for the lead. I know several people who can use the help. Amazing there's a location really close. We need to serve the least of us !

I have heard about this. This is the first time I have actually looked into it. There is one near me and I will be checking it out. A big THANKS for putting this link up!

Sounds great, but I have a Moral Question: does Angel foods sacrifice financially when it sells foods: am I helping them to provide for more people by buying, or am I taking food from someone who probably needs it more than my family???

To be honest, right now just about EVERYONE needs this:

From what I have read they have plenty of resources.

I have never heard of them running short so far, even with the increased demand due to what is going on in the world right now. Sometimes the menu does change, because just like big wholesalers items run out or are replaced by something else, etc.

It is not just for the unemployed.

1. If you have a family and are having a tough time because your hours have been cut back, benefits reduced, etc. This is for YOU.

2. Single mom/dad, This is for YOU.

3. Medical Bills, High Medication costs, health issues, This is for YOU.

4. Handicapped, elderly, medically disabled, etc. etc.

I know some folks who use this program and it is a really good program. No strings attached. I don't think you are hurting or helping if you use the program from what I can understand. They are buying food in bulk at a bargain price and passing those savings on to you. I would think it's set up like a large co-op system. Basically they sell the food for what it cost them + their operating expenses. I assume this is correct.

Our church participates in this program. They provide the value by volume buying. Your participation actually helps everyone in the program.

Further, many churches (ours included) use the resources available through Angelfood to help the poor in our area.

It is the best kind of charity. The kind where people help people help themselves.

From what I understand R.A.T is correct.

Who qualifies?

Everyone, there are no applications or qualifications to order Angel Food.

It is all (good quality) restaurant quality food.

I was in the restaurant business from 1982-1987, a former Food Production Manager and Store night manager my last 2 years for franchise stores with Village Inn Restaurants. I can say that it is restaurant quality as they say it is. :)

we took part in local co-op that works on the same priniple of buying in bulk. also did garden sharing... i mean really how much squash do you need. we also did canning drives to take said veggies and can and perserve them. I think angelministries does a good job, but also i think when done right co-ops work out really really well. and can fit people and locations better. also we went for local co-oping to reduce the gas useage. and would go and bargin with farmers etc. work with local mills. You will need lots of scales bags, jars , storage rooms etc. its basicly a group buy. had hunters split up harvests etc.

for a long time i vol. at a rural food depot. it was housed in a church completely vol. staffed. and got many usda benifits. more then any thing else i liked was the ability to get baby food and other things... that add up real fast. this year im going to take a few cases of cat and dog food with me there. because thats something very lacking , pets not getting proper food and most of elderly people there constant companion was a cat or a dog....

A lot of good points, everyone helping everyone is the way to do it, in the end it is just us and God and we are supposed to do our part to help each other. :)

Wal-mart and Sutherlands have donated the last two years (seedlings, seed, fertilizer, gloves, etc) to our garden project here. I have been planting small gardens for the last two years to give to widows, elderly, handicapped, people layed off, etc., those in need and really to anyone who asks for help as well.

In my personal life, I know what it is like to eat in at a 5 star restaurant and what it is like not to eat for 3 days as well, when I used to do missionary work, it's life, things happen.

We have given away a lot of squash and tomatoes this year, Praise God!
Working the garden by hand really helped me lose weight and stay in shape as well.

I am thankful I have the health to plant and help others when needed.
