I just recieved a damascus Leek and am really warming up to the knife. My only dislike is the smooth scales, it slipped from my hands a couple of times already. I'd like to replace the non-lock scale on my Leek with G10...Can I buy this from Kershaw from another Leek model? or is there someone who makes scales for the Leek?

Thanks

Dave, Try STR. He may be able to hook you up for a reasonable price for just the non lock scale. I have a Random Leek I did up with a scale from a G10 Leek I got from Oregon Edge after one of his franken Leek projects. Unfortunately, I have no Idea how to get one otherwise. Just make sure that you use Shallot screws to attach a factory G10 front scale to the frame lock if you manage to get one. The G10 leek screws are too long and the steel handled leek screws are too short.

I wish you much luck brother. If you find a way to get them let me know. I have a few Leeks I would like to add G10 to. ;)

EDIT* Dustin beat me to it:D

You can still find Kershaw Leeks with the textured G-10 handle and stonewashed S30V blade. The handle is a little thicker and uses liners, so you would have to use all parts from the G-10 model except for the blade you are swapping.

The Damascus blades are awesome, but personally I couldn't see swapping out the stonewashe S30V for anything else:D. It's one of my favorite finishes ever!

As far as being able to buy a set of G-10 scales from the factory, I'm not sure. You could also contact STR here on the forums and see if he can make you a set, or maybe even just one for the non-lock side, which would look pretty cool and work even better.

Also, you can always go the grip-tape route. Get some good grip tape of the right texture for your needs, cut a piece out, and stick it on the handle slab. Has worked very well for others here on the forum, and with a bit of solvent it's a completely reversible mod.

Good luck,
Jon

+1, works like a champ. I personally cut a piece larger than the scale, laid the knife on it, pressed it down on a towel, then used a razor blade, angled to bevel the cut at a 45 degree angle, and it came out both smooth on the edges, and looks like it was factory installed.

It will also make a handy reflector at night if you have a search party looking for you :D
