I have an Al-Mar Pathfinder that someone is telling me is fake due to the light stamping of Japan on one side of the tang and not saying Seki, Japan. It has the gold chops on each side of the handle also. I am looking for any and all help with this, especially if RyAnne Mar could respond. And if someone can help me with uploading pictures of this I would appreciate it.

Welcome to the forums,Knife lady.I don't know much about Al-Mar knives but I do know how to help you on
the issue of not being able to post images on here.I like to use Imgur to post pictures on this site....

....once you're done with the process of making an
account click on your profile picture,go to "Images",drag
and drop your selected picture, click on it,copy the BBC code and paste it here.At first you might see the link to
the image that may look like this..

When you post a reply that link should look like this....

Upload your pictures to a hosting site like Imagur.
Then post the link URL to that photo here. People can click on it and see the photo.

Or- upload your picture to vgy.me.
After picture uploads, click on Direct link.
Then click on the 7th symbol from thr right above.
Then paste that url.

The AM Pathfinders can be found with nothing on the left side of the blade, or SFBI or FBI printed.
The chop mark can be red or non-colored (limited "gold stamp"). The right side ricasso should have SEKI JAPAN stamped.
The stamping can be deep or light. I have not seen one with just "JAPAN" stamped. However that does not
mean 100% that it is fake. Would like to see your photos.

I do not see anything about that knife that seems out of the ordinary, except for the "Japan" stamp. Maybe some AM experts can chime in.
These knives were made by the G.Sakai factory up to about 1990 (I think) and I have found examples of well known knives that had some minor stamping differences. That's why I suggested that this alone isn't 100% evidence of a "fake".

Overall , your knife and sheath look very similar to mine . Very close . But I can't say about the markings . I'll try to remember to see what is on the reverse of mine .

I don’t claim to be a expert on AM but have bought many and sold many! You knife & it’s chops & stamps are fine! There is always a bit of variation from year to year etc.. You friend is most likely just jealous
