Hi there. I will be in Albuquerque for two nights and two and a half days before TG, and was wondering if anyone has a favorite sporting goods / knife store. There must be some good ones. I like good production knives - stuff you won’t find on Amazon or at Walmart. I also like looking at custom knives, or just anything unusual. Double points if there is a good selection of long guns - got one of those I’m looking for.

Anyway, I have some free time. Also,I’m bringing down a cooler from Colorado hoping to score some tamales.

Wear a seatbelt!

Cabelas is the only one that comes to mind. But it’s been a couple years since I’ve been to Albuquerque. I try to avoid that place. Lol. I live 4 hours southwest of it. I did live there about 25 years ago, spent a year working telecomm up there. Also, make sure lock your vehicle. Crime has gotten pretty bad up there!!

Also, Sportmans Warehouse has a nice collection.
For tamales, I highly suggest the Santo Domingo Pueblo!! It's only about 25 mins North on I25 from Albuquerque. There's only one exit for it and when you exit and go over the bridge there are usually folks that are selling tamales, bread, and cookies....all homemade and really good. It's typically set up like a small little flea market.

Yikes. Like a responsible owner and carrier of pocket knives I looked up NM laws. I guess I will be leaving the microtech at home….

What laws? I’m not familiar with them. But I’m also never bothered by Leo. Maybe Albuquerque is different though. I carry my knives, whatever I want, and I’m always carrying my sig p365 concealed. Never had an issue

No OTF, no autos, no gravity knives, no assisted knives. Bowie and survival knives are not legal to carry, nor is any type of dagger. Butcher knives are also prohibited - which is kind of odd as well. Tanto blades seem to be a gray area - prohibited because of two sharpened edges, but it seems impossible anyone has ever been successfully prosecuted. I know New Mexico has some odd liberal laws, but that’s quite a contrast from neighboring states.

Heh. I’ve been carrying a Reate Exo-M lately, and as I was putting it in my pocket this morning, I thought “gee, you better check the law.” Thing turned out to be double illegal in NM. My letter opener is a tiny little 2-inch Microtech - also wildly illegal, but wildly improbable to ever be used as a weapon.

New Mexico has the best roadside food, and maybe the best Mexican food trucks of anywhere. I come originally from Alabama and Louisiana, where you walk shirtless with a loaded AR in one hand and a drawn samurai sword in the other, but I’ll be d***** if there is a good tamale.

👌🏽Next time you come South to New Mexico you have to come to Santa Fe (60 miles north of ABQ.) The Cutlery of Santa Fe, Posa’s Restaurant & Tamales Factory and The Outdoorsman of Santa Fe.🔪🫔 etc.
