Alternative to Cold Steel Spike /w better steel?

Hi there,

I own a Spike. But the thickness is too hefty and the steel too soft (I already bend the point).
It should have the same narrow.
I only found the Buck Hartsook. How do you like it?
The sheath is not optimal.
So I search for alternatives.
I prefer S30V, D2 or 154CM.
I also need a kydex/abs/whatever sheath. Mounting options are necessary.

It would be nice, if someone can help me!

Best regards,
Julian

What is your budget?
Also, if you can find one for sale, a Busse Skeleton Key is fairly similar, but could be more than you are willing to pay.

EDIT: Also, what spike do you own? I just realized that Cold Steel has 2 different spike series, so my suggestion above may not be really at all what you are looking for.

Julian,
I want to get the Tokyo Spike, I like the bladeshape a lot. I was concerned about the steel too. How did you bend the point?

@Rostilav:
What a lovely knife. But it is hard to find and a bit expensive.
I'm willing to spend $100-140.

@RevDevil:
Hmm. I did realize it after it happened. But I never used it on hard surface.
The steel is too soft and too thick.
Cold Steel sells it as a weapon. The tips is not thick and will break if you push in self defense.
This construction miserable failed IMO.

@asdf12345:
Also a nice knife but way above my budget.

Does anyone have the Buck Hartsook?

Do you bend it using it in self defense? Yikes!

I have the Buck Hartsook and like it a lot. Have an aftermarket kydex sheath that I picked up cheap and it makes it much nicer to carry. The Buck sheath is simply too large for that little knife. I have put inner tube on the handle of one to make it more to hold onto and wrapped another with para cord. I have tried many neck knives but the Hartsook is the only one I have stuck with since the others bothered my neck if worn all day.

Downsides of it; it is small so check one out first to make sure it's what you like/want. Also, lots of fakes of them out there now so buy from a reputable dealer.

I have that knife in my spectator list on ebay. But the guards annoying me. They destroy the slim profile. What do you think?

No. I did not use it in self defense... Yet. You can only slice with this damn knife. IMO it isn't a good self defense tool.

@ohen cepel:
Where did you get this sheath? The sheath the knife comes with has a stupid "mounting option".

The Hartsook is a tiny little micro knife and is designed for a totally different purpose than the spike series.

This type of knife is really the only type where I would consider a Besh Wedge. IIRC several manufacturers used that geometry (Meyerco, Boker, and others).

I didn't realize, how small the Hartsook is. Ever for my small hands it seems too small. Now I know, why it is so cheap. Because you pay for less premium material.

I know the Boker besh wedge. But it is a dagger knife. I loved these kind of knives years ago.
But I also want to use it as a utility knife.

How's the Shadow tech knife from above? I mentioned, that the guard on there website is slightly different (thicker and shorter).
Is the blade shape suitable for utility work?
The steel is O1. How is the steel?

If I wanted a slim, low profile, high quality stabby knife, I'd get a Benchmade SOCP.

How do you damage a thick shiv? People use a large nail for the same purpose and do plenty of damage without issues.

I have 2 Spikes, and can't imagine flesh and maybe some bone causing more damage to the knife than the knife to the person on the receiving end.

I always imagine that if I have to use it, I won't be getting back for more use, nor will I worry about the condition for the price.

Kinda a singular purpose knife.

The guard is a little funky on that one to me too, but I think it's there to keep the handle from going right on through whatever you're stabbing it into.

I didn't have problems with the blade when I put a microbevel on the edge. I just wish they had a clip for it or at least spaced it properly for a Tek lock.

Depends on how you want to use it. If you're more interested in "stickability" vs cutting/slicing, you might appreciate this one
5" handle, 4" blade (the blade is almost triangular, in shape - not a slicer; though I'm sure it could be made differently)
