I'm having trouble finding a company (or individual) who's able to re-ano the scales for my Benchmade 13150 (HD Mini-Hardtail). I've made a few calls (left msgs, actually) to recommended anodizers, but none have returned my calls. Any help would be appreciated.

BM said the alum. is 6160 T6, silver ano, etched prior to the process (Type II, they recollect). The silver would have to be stripped before re-ano'd. (My knife is NIB).

I've got a killer, custom job in mind and the re-ano (light green) is crucial for the look I want to achieve. (Dark acid,stone-wash/green ano scales/genuine tortoise shell inserts).

Thanks a bunch Y'all!!!

Are you saying the scales were colored or dyed silver after the anodizing was done? Thats how color is added to the anodizing process.

I need to go from (factory) silver to green. Also, the area below the inserts needs to be bare, polished aluminum for the t-shell to pop.

Sodium Hydroxide would be used to strip the aluminum, it would need polished after its stripped to bring the finish back to factory condition. When a part is anodized it produces a layer of aluminum oxide, 0.001 thick. One half is in the aluminum surface 0.0005 and 0.0005 is added to the surface. This can alter fit slightly and needs to be taken into account if close tolerance is crucial. The finished anodized surface is aluminum hydrate after the part is sealed. Fred

You can anodize aluminum at home, but it's an involved process.
I think the green would look terrible anyway!
Using genuine tortoise shell is probably illegal. That said, all you have to do is buy a spray can of gold paint (the kind with the can top that looks plated) and spray paint the back of the shell before installing it. The shell should be mechanically attached with pins or screws-not glued in place.

The info is certainly appreciated, but I want to outsource the anodizing work. Any recommendations?

Also, green is just one of the possible colors I was considering. Additionally, the tortoise shell pic is not the piece I'm going to use. I have a nice stockpile that I've accumulated over the years to choose from. It is not illegal to work with. It is only illegal to sell. ...and I've found that gold foil produces a better effect than spray paint.

I know of no one who anodizes single pieces. Of course gold foil works better, if you know how to use it.
There may be someone on BF that anodizes. Isn't there a forum here for services rendered?
