I purchased a set of Ameriware Cutlery with block which looked awesome during the demo. I can't find anything on line about it though which makes me wonder if I purchased a nice set. Does anyone know about this cutlery? It can be seen at www.onlinecookery.com I am interested in knowing if this is a good knife set.

Wow, pricey stuff.

For that price, I would prefer to do as I have and have Murray Carter make me a set. If you're going to pay that kind of money, you might as well have some of the best knives in the world.

I don't think you paid too much if they are good quality. You can certainly spend much more on factory made kitchen cutlery (Shun for example). The Shun Ken Onion line is more expensive than the set you purchased and is worth every penny IMHO.

I like the look of your knives. Let us know how they perform.

I looked all over that site and it doesn't say anywhere where the knives are made. This doesn't absolutely matter, but with "Ameri" in the name and a red, white, and blue color scheme, not to mention those prices, I'd like to think it's not China. But, unfortunately, some of the traits of the knives resemble those coming out of China. Damascus steel from China is especially not well-reputed.

That's a good point. The cookware is made in the USA. I would hope the cutlery is as well but can't find any reference to where the cutlery is manufactured.

EDIT: I just called them and asked where the cutlery was manufactured. China was the answer.

Yes, it does say made in China on the box. Should I worry about these since they were made there? I still have not opened these boxes.

I would say that is your call. For that same money I'd have me some Shun knives. You know for sure you're getting quality with Shun. You're rolling the dice at this point. I've looked quite a bit for reviews of the knives you just bought and can't find a thing.

Chinese Damascus.... hmmmm.... I would send that back if I had the chance and take my $750 to either Shun or even Carter. That's a good chunk to drop on kitchen knives -- good for you for making that investment which you will enjoy for years to come -- and so you should get something really nice which you will enjoy.

I have to agree with everyone else. Pack those boxes up get your money back and go drop the 750 on some Shuns or other high end knife producer.

I have to agree with Chuck and morrowj 100%.
For that price I would go with either of those suggestions (Carter and or Shun).

I purchased one of the AmeriWare knives at a demonstration and was skeptical. It is actually the best knife that we own. Our other cutlery experience is with Sebatier, Wustof, and Cutco knives. The Ameriware one keeps its edge dramatically better than our other ones. In fact, we have the santoku knife, and have not sharpened it in 7 months with regular usage. Sure, we've used a steel maybe a dozen times to restore the edge, but unlike our Wustof knifes which we sharpen with the Spyderco Sharpmaker (recommend), this AmeriWare knife has certainly exceeded our expectations.

Welcome to Bladeforums, HughDjorgen! Can I buy a set of Ameriware cutlery from you? :D

I have to agree! When does your SALE start? (probably right after his/her next post vehemently denying being a Dealer for Ameriware)

Janice - please take a look and see if you can return these, there are plenty of folks here that will freely give their time to help you select well known Quality knives that you will treasure!

I got one of these knives before they went on sale to the public (I was working with the Co at the time) Now that I have quit, and am no longer selling these things, I think I would be in a good position to give an accurate review, as I have looked at all the competition.

I prefer the ameriware knives over any other knife I have ever used, I used mine hard and having had it for well over 2 years, I can say that I don't care WHAT country the come from or who made them, all I know is that the blade gets extremely sharp and stays that way for a long long time, it is thick enough to not worry about it snapping if it gets caught in something it isnt meant to be used for, and the core is cutting edge made with some extremely hard stuff (I forgot the numbers, but it makes cutco look like lead) the folded steel on either side of the core keeps it flexible.

they are the only knives I use, the only ones I will buy, and this is from someone who personally detests the people who run the company, and thinks that the cookware they sell is very very overpriced.

However, the knives are superb, and while pricey, they are in my opinion a good value

(did I mention that the handles are also plastic impregnated laminated hardwood that is really waterproof, even though I STILL wouldnt put it in the dishwasher)

"Hard stuff" like what? Wait a minute, did I see you at the state fair this year?
 ,
rats...

Ameriware cutlery is now, this week, being demo'd @ Costco on Tampa, San Fernando Valley, CA. A set of all their knives plus 2 bonus steak knives and your choice of another bread or slicer, 23 pieces including a nice wooden case is $449, with a bamboo cutting board and block. And they claim that there are over twice the layers of steel than the other damascus knives you see on the net. I own a lot of the best there is in knives but am still kicking this set around. SM
