Hi All,

Quick question. These coming holidays I plan on visiting family in Florida that has various firearms. Usually we go to the range a couple times over a week or so, and I thought it would be nice if I ordered some ammo to their house before heading down.

We don't need thousands of rounds, just a couple boxes each of:
9mm
5.56
40sw
380

Where do people order from?

I was looking at Cheaper Than Dirt and TulAmmo, Wolf, Armscor are half the price of Winchester and Federal.

Is it ok to get cheap ammo? will it affect the guns? no one will be a competition shooter if that matters.

Thanks as always!

I personally avoid steel case ammo because of complications when switching between brass and steel, and I avoid corrosive primers but you’re not going to see any in the calibers you mentioned if you stick with brass.

I shoot pretty cheap brass cased ammo and rarely have ammo-related failures. I’m talking maybe 1 per couple thousand rounds.

Honestly for a couple boxes of each, I’d go by a local academy sports when you get there.

I’ve avoided cheaper than dirt since their participation in price gouging during the last run on arms.

If you’re not doing bulk stuff and you’re just looking for plinking rounds I would try a local shop brand or Walmart (if they still have what you’re looking for after their recent policy change). Online bulk or defense rounds I really like SGammo.com but will sometimes see what’s popped off on gunbot.net.

SG Ammo has always treated me well. They are upfront about pricing, shipping, and what's in stock. Prices are always within reason, not always the cheapest but never a rip-off.

Forgot SGAmmo, they are GTG too.

As others have said, sgammo.com is the only place I buy ammo, unless I happen to see a really good sale elsewhere. Good prices, and shipping has always been fast too.:thumbsup:

I have also had good luck with sgammo.com as well as ammoman.com.

I only fire lacquered steel case ammo in my Yugo M70 no other steel cased ammo nor polymer coated stuff for me. sgammo.com is the best IMO.

Live in FL and order from both Palmetto State Armory and SGA Ammo, both have great prices and deliver quickly

Excellent recommendation. I recently purchased an AR pistol from them, and they had the best shipped price I could find on a case of Federal Lake City 5.56 XM193. There were also rebates from Federal at the time for 3¢/round.

For a few boxes, go to Cabelas it Academy. I buy 5.56 at academy for about $6.50 a box for 55g, 9mm is around $11 a box of 50, the others should be around the same price.
Buy quality ammo, I do Federal, American Eagle and Hornady for the most part.

I never shoot steel cases or polymer coated ammo. Some can cause gassing issues and possible chamber damage due to steel not expanding the way brass does to create a seal.

targetsportsusa if you're buying in bulk.

THIS. If you are just looking for a few boxes, then Walmart or some sporting goods store will be fine. If you are looking for bulk that if you use AmmoSeek.com it will help you find the lowest prices and also who has the cheapest, or even FREE, shipping. TargetStportsUSA and OutdoorLimited normally have the lowest prices on Wolf. If you get 500-1000 rounds it normally ships free. Wolf is more accurate and consistent then Winchester White Box (and other cheap brass ammo). Sometimes you can pick up a 1k box of brass CCI (9mm shipped for $169 vs $130 for the steel Wolf). The wolf does not have that nice ammo smell like US ammo, but is non corrosive. I've shot about 30k+ out of a Glock 17 Gen4 and about 3k so far though a Dan Wesson Specialist 9mm. Maybe 1 or 2 misfires every 1.5-2.5 thousand rounds. Don't listen to people saying that cheap ammo will hurt your gun. Shoot a lot and actually build a skill set. There are too many people that have four thousand dollar Nighhawk and Wilson 45 acp handguns and Daniel Defense safe queens and other Gucci kit that complain about high US made brass ammo prices and don't train and then can't shoot worth sh*t when they get out to the competitions and carbine classes. Its sad because if they can't shoot for sh*t during a non dynamic stress, low body alarm response match, I can only wonder what they will shoot like when their life depends on it. Buy Wolf, shoot the crap out of your guns, and actually have a decent amount of skill. Steel wearing out extractors? I have a brand new glock extractor as a backup and it is the same angle and amount of steel as the one in my Glock with 30K rounds on it. Steel wearing out AR chambers? I'd rather shoot twice as much and gain twice as much trigger time for the price and shoot steel and replace the barrel every 20-40k rounds like everyone shooting brass does anyways. I would put the quality of Wolf Polyformance over anything like TulAmmo or Bear or the other cheap steel case brands. The consistency alone is worth the extra cent or so per round. The extream spread in FPS on numerous chronograph tests show Wolf to be the best of the steel case. If you find factory brass for a good deal then you sort of get the best of both worlds. And people will pick up your brass for you because they want to reload XD

Hey guys thanks so much! There is so much info out there. Fell into a rabbit hole a little bit. First with the prices, then brass v steel, then 165 grain v 180 grain for the 40. All while realizing we don't shoot often enough to for the small differences to matter. Really happy to have the info though.

I checked out SGAmmo and TargetSportsUSA.

At Targetsportsusa it looks like I can get 200 rounds or more of each for around 200 bucks
CCI Blazer Brass for the 40sw and the 380acp
Federal American Eagle 5.56
and Winchester USA forged 9mm

And it's all US made which I thought was a bonus. It's still in the shopping cart. I'm going to do a little more looking then probably pull the trigger.
