in the spirit of a new year (though not nearly as wonderful as pipemans gift) i have an extra hard copy of 'an axe to grind' to give away to anyone that DOES NOT ALREADY have a copy and would like one.
i'll do like pipeman and draw the post number... except i'll get my lovely wife to do the drawing:D

contest rules; its simple, just post a pic(s) of your favorite axe and tell us WHY its your favorite axe... thats not to hard...
i'll do the drawing on sunday night 8pm mst... then post the winner and they can PM with the needed info and i will mail it on tuesday the 10th...

just thought it would be something fun for us all to see and learn from... plus the wife says i need to be a nice guy this year, unlike the last...

good luck:p

If i'm allowed to do the honor:

My Cegga British Red Axe.
WHY? It's my first Cegga and one of the few came in black forged finish and it feels so much balance and well done than any axe i've handled before.

Thanks Bearman ;-) I have hundreds of reference books but not a one on axes. I'm in Bro.

This is my favourite axe at the moment cause it's the only one with a handle ;-)) Great oldish Swedish, nice balance.
Thanks for the giveaway Bro.

Best regards

Robin

Thanks Bearhunter!!!

My True Temper Kelly Perfect Axe.

Why? It is my go-to trailwork axe. It will need a new handle unfortunately before the spring. Add it to the list of projects!

Nice giveaway, thanks! Count me in. This past summer I watched a video with the same title, "An Axe to Grind" that demonstrated how to hang a double bit axe. I then re-hung an old double bit from at least the 60's.
I used it to chop down three trees, and realized I should have gotten a better handle to start with. More info one axes would be nice. Here's a pic of the double bit, I guess it's my favorite axe, cause it's my only axe. I have a hatchet and some hawks....

Thanks, bearhunter!

This one has got to be my favorite as of now. A Mustad carpenter's axe. Why? Well, it's unique. I've only seen two Mustads for sale. I have one and the other is in the mail somewhere on its way to me! ;) It's also a hell of a tool. I'm blown away at how well this baby chops. It cuts deep! For some reason, it does not bind much, which you would think it would. It even splits well. It also has a low angle so you can easily carve with. You can choke up so far that the entire weight of the head is balanced right in your hand. Feather sticks? No problem. It hews well too. Straps nicely to a backpack or pack saddle. I actually think this would compete with ANY "bushcraft" axe. It kicks ass and take names. Phew...enough bragging, right!?

did you get the Mustad offered on fleabay?
it was well used but in good shape

your Mustad looks like it would really do a good job of hewing as you stated.
thanks for posting, i'd like to hear more about this pattern

Yeah, did you sell it or just see it????

I'll put some pics up of the "new" one when it gets here. I'll try to get some action shots of these also. This guy is sweetness on a stick.

no, i was not the seller, heck, if i had the Mustad to start with i'd never sell it LOL.

man there is some axe candy.

i thought i had a few axes around the shop but i can't touch that.

the offset handled hewing axe looks real good. i could make a handle like it if i put my mind to it. i,m making a handle for a 12 inch hewing axe, it has a slight offset. not too difficult to make just a chore to find suitable Hickory to start with.

thanks for posting:D

JayGoliath, I think you and I may be brothers from another mother ..lol
That Cegga is beautiful man. I have had no luck finding one, but that's Dang near perfectly my dream field axe.
You sir have good taste, and damn fine gear.
Plus Hi again ..lol

This is the SFA I owned while working in the Canadian North, there was no trees up there so I had to try it out on our old Christmas tree. :)
Sadly when I was leaving there the rubbermaid bin it was in cracked from the cold and it slipped out, now it is giving great joy to some baggage handler from the Ottawa airport. :(
Until I replace it it is still my favourite, I just don't have possession of it right now.
Forgot to say, thanks for the giveaway!
