Annealing Bronze

I just picked up some bronze to use for guards. It's very pretty, but it is harder than rocks. It was a chore just to drill holes in it using carbide bits. Does anyone know how to (or even if you can) anneal bronze? For some reason I thought non-ferrous metals were annealed through quenching...but what do I know :) ;).

There is an old urban myth that nonferrous metals are annealed then quenched .The annealing process occurs at temperatures starting at 450F.And for copper it doesn't matter whether you slow cool or quench. The exception to this is an alloy that can be precipitation hardened , such as sterling silver, which must be quenched. So - what type of bronze do you have ? Do some experimenting, you'll find a way.

Heat it to red hot, pass it over to IG and he'll douse it with habenero relish. >>>shudder<<<

Man the thought of that stuff passing through my system still gives me the willies!

I want to know more about this infamous relish of yours! I like it hot, and if this stuff makes me need to put a snow cone machine in the head then it sounds good to me!

Where are you and how do I go about getting a jar of this stuff? Is it hot enough to make my eyelids sweat when I open the jar? Can you heat treat a cold blade in it? I gotta know the answers to these and many more questions.....

I remember ordering several jars if IG's HT relish. We kept it in the fridge at my friend Don's BBQ restaurant for folks who foolishly looked at the assortment of hot sauces on the counter and said, "Is this the hottest stuff you got?" Don would give them the jar and a tablespoon and say, "Try this, it has a good kick." One fellow put nearly an ounce of it on his BBQ sandwich and took a big bite. It was almost like the cartoons where you would see smoke coming out his ears. He drank his soda, asked for a refill, and then asked for a box saying, "This is really good ... I'll finish it at home."
