BMK Jimmy: I realize this is an International Only available product, but I'm curious on your personal thoughts on this 940-1801 vs the 940DLC-1802 available on Smokey Mountain Knife Works.

Personally? The 940-1801 was my design project so of course this one!

Seriously though, as far as overall aesthetics go I prefer the Damasteel of the 940-1801. That pattern is just beautiful. As far as a daily user knife goes I would go with the 940-1802 with the DLC M390 blade and CF handles. Much more wear resistant materials. The 940-1801 is also a very limited quantity compared to the 940-1802.

Why can’t we get this one again!!? I would love one if the blade was going to be centered!

I suspected that. The Damasteel is truly a work of Art, and surely collectable at only 260 available units. Since I tend to use all of my Benchmades, even if it were available in the U.S., I'd probably pass on the 940-1801. It's way too beautiful to use!

If one were to carry and light use this 940-1801...just because it's so damn beautiful, to which steel would the performace be comparable the most?

Also, can you tell us who is the maker of the damascus used?
Thanks!

Oh and my thoughts jimmy! I would much rather pay the extra $100 or so for this damasteel. I do prefer the handle and red accents on the other though. Perfect model would be damasteel/cf

It’s going to be interesting to see what the South African distributor is going to try and sell these for. Their retail arm was wanting the equivalent of $1000 for another brand’s 40th Anniversary Damascus bladed model.

They are not the distributor for the other brand so it will clear up in my mind who was being greedy.

The steel bar is made by Damasteel of Sweden. This is a stainless steel alloy that is comparable to 154CM in performance. It is a user steel for sure.

We actually picked the blue/gold colors of this 940 to honor Damasteel of Sweden as our first International Exclusive. The colors of the Swedish flag are blue/gold.

That is a wonderful homage to Sweden and great for the international model!

I’ll be waiting for the US versions Odin Helm damasteel, red resin-infused carbon fiber handles, with the new contour!

That is beautiful! How about making one with blue anodized scales and m390 blade?

Hi there! Where can I read up on information about this US version?
