Another Newbie Question: Busse Knives Cryogenically Treated?

Hi again,

I posted my first post earlier today, but I forgot to ask another question.

Are any of the Busse knives cryogenically treated to make them stronger? If not, does anyone think that by doing so would make them ever MORE badass than they already are? Not sure how the INFI steel would do being cryogenically treated.

Anyone like to put in their opinion on this?

Thanks!

John

The only people who know aren't talking. The story around here is that the complete HT cycle for INFI is 80 hours, but we really don't know.

By HT you mean heat treatment Resinguy? I would be surprised if INFI steel is cryogenically treated to -300F thats a long and expensive process to do I believe. If INFI blades are not cryo treated, then they WOULD be even way more badass after this process.

What do you think?

Howd and welcome to the forum.
Jerry Busse has been making knives for a few days now.
Im sure he knows what he's doing.
Remember,he's the one who has a
"no matter what" warranty on his knives.
Cryogenic Schmyrogenic
I'll take it the way it comes from Busse.

We do a dry, multi cycle, deep cryo treatment.

Our Cryo center is great for chilling scotch as well!!!!!:D

Let's drink!

Jerry :D.

Hi Jerry!

Wow, what an honor! Thanks so much for chiming in! I know how beneficial cryo treating metal can be and its awesome that you do this for your knives. Now I won't have to do cryo treat my new Busse knives when I get them! ;)

Most excellent!

Thanks SO MUCH

How would you have cryo treated your own knives?

Why would you? Is is necessarily the best process for all steels? If you don't know the metallurgy of INFI, or anything else about the complete Busse Heat Treat cycle, what leads you to think that you could improve on it?

I'm not trying to bust your chops, just trying to understand your thinking. Thanks.

Actually the steel composition is not secret, it has been posted, but I do not have a link.

Resinguy, I wouldn't have done the cryo treatment myself. I now a company in the Seattle area that does this for a small price. I have done some good amount of research on cyro treatment of steels to improve them and is an excellent way to make a great steel better. The very fact that Jerry Busse does this to his INFI steel shows the importance of it for a superior steel. :)

Welcome to the maddness.....

Here is what you do Bro....... You go forth and buy the INFI then you go out and beat it as hard as you can knowing that you are covered by the FINEST WARRANTY on the planet......Not that you will need it:D
Let Jerry worry about the rest.;)

It's kinda real simple,,,,,,,,,,,If It Ain't Broke, Don't Go Trying To Fix It !!!!!!!!!!!!

Just buy the blade you want,,,,,,,and use it to your hearts content. If you break it,,,,and I do mean ,,,, IF ,,,,,,, the warranty will cover it's repair. There's nothing you really need to do to a Busse Blade ,,, except USE it.:thumbup:

Hey John---you know I'm just razzing you. You are now part of the best Knives and Forum on the Planet. ;)
