Charles that paperwork!! From Mr Bradley himself! That's right up there with the most incredible ephemera I've ever seen. Matches up with that amazing collection too. Is that scimitar the one Mike had? If so how did you ever pry it away? Has to be the most unique NYK ever! I am in awe!

Thanks. I've been chasing NYK knives for many years and now I have people looking out for me, that is how I came by the check. When I heard about it I could not pass it up.

Yes that is the one Mike had. I met him in Arizona a couple of years ago and got to see some of his collection. He has a great ephemera collection! I had the chance to look at this knife and ask him if he ever decided to sell I wanted a chance to own it. I think he understood my passion for NYK and when he decided to sell he contacted me. Very happy to own it.

I don't see stag NYK very often so I could not pass this one up.

Charlie where the heck did you find that! Please don't say Ebay! Finest I've ever seen, looks like it still has the original oil!

I found it at the Tulsa Wanamaker show this April. It was expensive, but I could not pass it by. Mint condition with the line stamp and Hammer Etch I'm guessing early 1880s.

Here is my prized paper item in my NYKCo. collection with some of my choice knives in the last photo. I ask John for a little staging so I could share these in this thread.

I wonder in the world this could have been payment for? That is a lot of money especially back then...

Charles that is one fine looking knife :thumbsup:! Mike is a great guy and has many fine collectible knives. Lloyd

Well it took a couple of days, but I finally read thru all the posts.... and I'm compelled to join everyone in saying the is a great thread this is!!
Too bad many of the pics are now missing, but what a treat to see the ones that can still be viewed. I love all the various blade patterns seen here & a bit envious of the etched ones. Since I didn't see any mention of it, you all probably know, but I'll be the dumb one here and ask.... When did NYK change their tang stamp from the curved form to the straight one?

I also have some questions about this 3½" Jack I acquired recently. Was this bare end version without embellishments such as being all steel lined (no brass) & no shield to keep the price down as an entry level knife.... or does it mean it is an older knife.... or is there some other reason? I've been searching for a 19th century example and am wondering if I crossed that threshold or am I even close to it? Certainly love to know more about it.....
BTW, altho this oldie has some rough lookin' edges, both these blades are still quite sharp!

KAW, I'm not seeing your pictures, is anyone else having that problem? All that appears is a bunch of "IMG" things.

I don't see them either. I did peek into the post and it looks like it's hosted by Google. Not sure what you need to be running to view it. I use Chrome myself and that doesn't seem to make a difference.

I did not see any of his pictures yesterday, but the first one shows up for me now.
Good looking knife.

Hey folks.... don't know why you can't see the photos! They show up in the post for me, but then again I'm signed in as me. o_O
When I went to my tablet where I'm not signed in, I don't see them either.
I deleted & re-inserted the photos... according to afishhunter that may have helped. If not, I guess I will attempt to show them in a new post.

Peregrin... I'm using Google Photo to host my pics & pasting the links using the image button on the post editing tool bar. Any reason why I can see the photos but others can't?

OK.... I think I fixed the problem.... so I had to go back & repost all the photos I posted in the last month....:(

I have not found any information about when the tang stamps were changed. NYK moved to Walden in 1856 and they introduced Hammer Brand in 1880. I think the early use of Hammer Brand was a blade etch. But when the stamps changed I don't know.

Just gorgeous Charles.... well from the first knife, we can deduce the tang change had to occur after 1880. ;)
