ive been looking into getting a new jacket/coat recently and one that really cought my eye was the filson duster coat. but i was wondering fi you guys had any suggestions. just nothing in tan please :barf:

it has to be within a reasonable amount of money. nothing that costs more then $300.

id would preferably like to stay away from leather at the moment, as ive got 3 leather jackets as it is. and a leather coat like that reminds me too much of the nazis/matrix/punisher/etc

look up driazabone (dry as a bone? ) they are quite good. might be what you are looking for.

Perform a Google on "oilcloth duster coat". You'll receive many results.

While we can't possibly list everything that you could possibly do to break the rules, here's a partial list.

This is a variation of the "no spam" rules that we have. We know you found a great deal on a Ninja Death Tool 3000 - we don't care.

Apologies Esav. I had actually thought the said Co. made (or had made under their brand) these items so okay to mention.

My bad.

I have 2x DrizaBone coats.
One full length riding coat in brown
And a short coat in black.

Both will keep you dry in the worst weather, but there are a few minor niggles.

1. They are heavy - but they are incredibly abuse proof.
2. No hood, so you will need to wear a hat to keep the rain from dripping down your neck.
3. (and this one is specific to me, and occurs with most jackets) if you hold stuff in your hands a lot, like a camera, water drips down the inside of your sleeves, and pools at the elbows.

Try Kadadu. They are an Australian company that makes waxed cotton/oil cloth jackets and coats. There prices are quite reasonable and within your limit. I have their "Nelson" jacket, which is based on the Barbour International or Belstaff Trialmaster. It has held up well for two years so far.

I used to have an Outback oilcloth coat that I wore every day for years. It had a hood that rolled up to become a collar, elastic inside the cuffs to keep arms dry, comfortable flannel lined, and good pockets. I think I paid $120 or so for the 1/2 length. One of the reasons I bought was because I liked the washing instructions: "Hang it up & hose it off."

Australian brand RM Williams also make a lot of oilskin clothing which actually look good enough to wear - ranging from full length to bomber style jackets.
Their website is a PITA to navigate, but it's under "mens" clothing.

Drizabone is also good and likely less expensive than RM Williams (which is good stuff, but have gone more "fashion" like Timberlands.)
