Lately i change my EDC... i pocket a new victorinox waiter.. put a glass screwdriver in the cork screw and put needle in the secret hole... for a single layer SAK, it packs alot of feature.. if it got pen like a waiter plus, then it's the most feature pack single layer...

its very light, usefull and cheap.... yes, it may lack some tools, but its pretty charming and usefull as it is...

also bought a new Compact... use to own a golfer... its a waiter in 91mm format, plus scissor, hook and a pen... the best part is the hook got some nail file on top of it!

its several dollar more expensive than a 4 layer explorer... and way more expensive than a super tinker, climber or even huntsman.... but its like a custom built SAK... nowdays, its the only 2 layer SAK with a scissor... seem to be nothing special, but i actually like it...

if there's a new 84mm version of compact, then its gonna be a perfectly awesome SAK for me...

these are just in my rotation for EDC...

so anybody actually own or like these two humble SAK?

thanks for your comments guys...

The Compact was my 'I want' knife a decade ago when they were in the catalog and you couldn't find any in the stores in Va. When I went to Europe I ended up buying one from a store in Switzerland. I carried it for a while. I also carried a Waiter for a while to. But I prefer separate tools instead of the combo tool since I use the small screwdriver on the end of the can opener alot
Otherwise, they are great tools!

I have a Compact that I carry when I go down to London or on trips to the Continent. It was black when I got it but I changed out the scales for some clear red ones. It looks a little more friendly that way plus I didn't want the pen or pin (I carry a pen anyway).

I used to carry an 85mm Wenger Metal 50 that I got in Switzerland but I don't want to take the chance of it getting lost, that's why I got the Compact.

Overall the Compact is a great edc. It gets rid of some of the redundancies of something like a Climber while staying very useful. An 84mm version would be great but does Victorinox make scissors in that size?

I had a Compact but lost it. It's a great thin SAK with scissors, but for me the can opener on the combo tool is less convenient in use than the conventional can opener. But if you don't mind that and want a thin SAK with full size scissors and a blade, the Compact is probably the best option.

My Waiter isn't in my EDC rotation. None of my 84mm actually. If I want to carry a small SAK but not as small as a Classic, I choose the Ambassador or Executive.

Yes, the screw driver tip on the can opener have been very useful and come handy in a lot of use for me. Its the feature that cannot be replaced by the combo opener..

I never leave home to a social event without a corkscrew. The waiter gets the nod when I want to pack a minimal multi-tool with plenty of features.

A Waiter was my first Victorinox (about 7 years ago) and it still gets carried. I also have a 91mm Golfer (a pre-1991 Compact that's missing the hook and pin) and a 84mm Golfer. Of these it's probably the 84mm Golfer that gets the most pocket time but there's noting wrong with the other two.

In fact I've now got a strong urge to go and look out my Waiter and pocket it.

Waiter is super light weight... yet its very sturdy and usefull... i just like how good and simple it looks...
yes, i definately miss the small screwdriver tips on the standard model... but i notice lately that many screw heads are allen keys or hex screw... in this case the best option for portable SAK are the cybertools...

if most of what you need is cutting, light prying, open bottles, using tweezers and toothpick, and occasional flat screwriver needed... a waiter would serve you well... if you got the recent model like mine and put a needle on the hole and put glasses screwdriver on the corkscrew, it gonna even more usefull...

tinker, supertinker, spartan, climber, explorer, hutsman are all great... but pocketing this lightweight single layer full of feature waiter is really pleasing for me...

the compact is great, and can be very handy if you need full size scissor, but want to carry thinner and lighter full size sak.... very2 usefull... and yes, still i miss the small scredriver on the generic can opener.... still, i love the design and look of the compact.

a waiter or sportsman and an alox classic on my wallet would serve me well in EDC environment...

as always, the GREAT thing about SAK is, we could choose any kind that we like... we could have many many types and carry the one that we're in the mood hehehe...

Just received a Waiter yesterday; pretty nice little bugger! It's a shame that it will reside in the kitchen drawer, on "bottle opening" duty. This thing is immensely pocketable!
