Hi Eric,

It has been a long time for me. But, I did try a 150Lb Barrett about 20 years ago. I found that it was very short legged. The bolt could travel some distance but the stock only allowed a slight elevation before it blocked my line of sight. Also, at the time many areas prohibited hunting with a crossbow. Perhaps both of these things have been corrected now.

Have fun.

I haven't taken sides, but crossbows or the use of them for hunting is the hottest topic in hunting.Man a lot of bow hunters hate them and anyone who would use them, they call them x-guns,crossguns ect.

This is mostly in areas where there are less deer and short seasons and bow hunters feel their way is threatend by x-guns.

Try www.bowsite.com for more info (and all the fights you can stand ;) )

In California, hogs are open all year to any legal weapon. I've hunted with a Barnett compound recurve crossbow (supposedly 300 fps), but never been offered a shot.

The bolts will penetrate a LOT of wet phone books so I think penetration will be adequate. I set my two sight pins at 30 and 50 yds, but it shoots pretty accurately to 60 yds. After that, fairly radical dropoff in trajectory.

I much prefer to carry a longbow or recurve.

If you're hunting hogs and can legally do so, carry a large-bore revolver for backup.

Have fun!
