It's a new name on me. They are supposed to be German. They have one knife that I like, but it's 140 smackeroos and I don't want to spend that on an absolute piece of crap. What worries me is that, not only have I never seen their products listed on any of the knife sites I usually buy from, but I also saw it on the BudK site when I did a search for it. Usually that's the flag going up for me. I've always thought that damn near everything BudK has, with a few exceptions, is crap. So does anyone know of Linder Knives or have any experience with them. i hope you have good things to say. I really would like to feel good about the knife.

linder is german/ solingen.
quite well known for traditional foders and traditional-bavarian leather trousers knives.
in fact they produce some quite well made hunting outdoor knives made from ats34 at 60RC
they are called "super edge".
as well as the stag handled kentucky bowie made of 440C

they both won an anually outdoor award at the biggest geman gun exebition

I've owned a few over the years. The bowies and daggers really held an edge. They were also bilt very well with excellent materials.

Not all but , alot of the fixed blades lean more toward the fancy side.

I think of them a bit like Puma. They used to show up here a lot, and then seemed to fade away. They seem to be on a bit of a push again now. I like 440C and ATS 34 so I've got no problems with that, though many are made from lesser materials. I think one of their nicer designs is http://www.heinnie.com/Knives/Linder/Linder-Hunter-Stag/p-92-164-2365/ , shame it's not in 440C or ATS 34. Most of the other designs I've seen I'm not so keen on. There are a few here http://www.heinnie.com/Knives/Linder/c-1-92-164/

This is the one I want. Talking about Crocodile Dundee the other day really refueled my desire for a knife like the one in the movie. Since the "Real" crocodile Dundee knives were never produced except for the ones used in the movie, this is the closest I can come. Seems like good materials and a good F&F. i just wanted to get some opinions on their products first. I WILL be using it if I get it, so I wanted it to be able to hold up to some light abuse.

At just under 10 inches (25 cm) this is a Bowie blade right up their with the biggest and the best. Linder`s Crocodile Hunter Bowie has a carbon steel blade and Cocobolo wood handle with nickel silver guard and pommel. It is supplied with brown leather sheath etched with the image of a crocodile.

I know nothing at all about that particular one. I'd want to know a bit more about that steel. I've seen similar descriptions used to sell some very mediocre Sheffield stuff hardened to 56. Conversely it could be a much underestimated gem.

Just out of curiosity, what kinda of price in USD were you looking at?

This knife seems like it would run me about $140-$150 USD. I looked around at others at the same price range to see if I could find one similar from a well-known company and wasn't really able to find anything. I hate to admit it, but I want something as close to the knife used in the movie as possible. i know it's silly to buy a knife based on a movie prop you fell in love with, but since it was the force that started the whole thing, I want to stick with it. I didn't even want a knife of this type other than the Corcodile Dundee knife. For instance, The Marbles Trailmaster looks great and i handled one a few times, but I just couldn't fall in love with it. Even though it was a similar knife made by a good well-known company, it didn't look exactly the same and didn't give me the same feeling. For me, this knife purchase is as much if not more a visual thing as a useful thing. I will use the knife, but the main reason for getting it is simply because I always wanted Mick Dundee's knife.

When Fallkniven started making the F1,I believe it was first made by linder. I have had two of their knives over the years and liked them both. One was a skinny bowie called the toothpick and the other is a F1 clone called the super edge made with ATS-34 steel

Cool. Without a quick rummage to find the original we're considering I think the below would come close to the brief for me. Easy to grind the saw off the back

EDIT: World knives pegs that at 2 lbs and Jaysknives has the Linder at 1 lb 1.3 oz

Pretty cool lines on that one, but that saw made me spit up on my keyboard. :) I tell ya what man, I've come really close to finding someone like the Twin Blades guys or something and just sending them a picture of it from as many angles as I can pull of the movie and saying "please make me this." I have a feeling it would cost and arm and a leg though.

I've owned a couple over the years, the fit and finish are very good, IMHO. I used the bowie below (originally posted in the bowie thread) a little (never really beat it), never had a problem... From what I've seen they are decent knives..

But still cheaper than this. Best of luck in your quest amigo ;-)

Thanks for all the help so far guys. I'm going to take a couple of days to make sure it's what I want, so more opinions and words are welcome.

i think you might be happier going the custom route...

I know I would be, but for $150 I can afford it. I'd have to wait quite a while to go the custom route, and even then, I don't know if I'd be able to. I have a lot of big money stuff coming up I have to pay for and I have a feeling it's going to start sucking up all the fun tickets i would normally be saving for toys.

hmm...well i suppose you can always get it, and if you decide you don't like it resell it here on the forums or on ebay or something...

I have a Linder 10" Bowie that I have used since 1993 & it has chopped more trees than I can count & holds a great edge. I have many, more expensive knives, but I still enjoy my Linder!
