Any experience with Bosch PBD 40 or Scheppach DP 13 or DP 16 SL drill press?

Hello,

I am not quite there to pull the trigger on a drill press, but the Bosch PDB 40 could just be the ticket - considerably more compact than traditional drill presses while seemingly capable to deliver sufficient precision and power for amateur knife making use.

EDIT: The Scheppach DP 13 is still relatively compact, but considerably cheaper. Should you have hands-on experience it would help me a lot.

EDIT 2: I am adding the Scheppach DP 16 SL to the lot :)

Thank you in advance :)

Hi!

I own a Bosch PDB 40 since about two years ago. I'm very happy with it. As you say, it's very compact and versatile. I really appreciate the speed control and constant electronic system. I also think it's accurate enough for knife making.

The only thing I don't love is the handwheel, it feels kind of awkward when you're used to a more standard drill press lever. But you get used to it, like most things.

Thanks currenthill - didn't you by accident write a review about it recently? Your experience seems to reflect the one of the reviewer nearly perfectly :)

Haha, actually no. That must be a coincident, I seldom write reviews. Maybe the pros and cons just are very obvious, regardless of the reviewer.

Nevertheless, I would absolutely recommend the Bosch, it's good value for money. I just wish Bosch would make it in blue.

:)

What I like about the Bosch is that it can drill 80mm deep without any further tricks - that should be helpful drilling handle and having some spare room.

A little update - I have bought the Bosch drill press and so far like it very much. However I wouldl like to use a 'standard' machine vise with it. I bought one where with 80mm wide jaws and size-wise it should fir the ridges on the base of the PDB40, but I am not sure what kind of attachment screws I need.
