Hiya Guys...
Well... I am really starting to have a SERIOUS yearning for an Everest Katana with the Decorative scabbard...My Spousal Unit also wants that Katana so things are a "Go" there!!
And well... it is getting bad enough that I am Almost considering finding a
new home for my Kimber of Oregon 6.5x55mm Swedish Mauser ...
I hope this is an OK place to talk RE: it....
Ideas...interest etc??
Ed

I have 2

6.5X55's

Both are old Swedish Model 94's. One is an 1895 Oberndorf and in nice condition. The other is the same but sadly someone sporterized it:thumbdn: Cut the stock off, turned down the barrell and bent the bolt:barf:

Ahhh... so good to be in the company of fellow Swede Lovers..(The Rifle I mean..besides the fact that I am One Happy married type for the last almost 9 years, I don't think a "Swede" would want this Old Norwegian of 44 yrs!!)
I have never laid my eyes on a Obendorf HollowD... sure would love to tho!

This is my 3rd 6.5x55 Swede.... 1st one was bought in 1987...A Carl Gustav M96 from 1922, then a M38 Husqvarna Short Mauser (1942), then I stumbled upon the M96 that Kimber of Oregon did a GORGEOUS job on... Satin finish over the all the metal, Super bore etc...
I have a lil 6X M8 Leupold Compact scope on it....syn stock... but You know... My Favorite rifle among all of them is the LIL M38 Husqvarna!
It just LOVES IMR 4350 and a 100g Sierra bullet!!
It sure is one efficient cartridge... really seems to love the slower burning powders... I was surprised that the same powder I used in my M77 .300 Win Mag and my M77 .264 Win Mag (Imr 4350) worked so well in the 6.5x55mm.

Well... I could go on forever talking about the Sweetheart Swede and this caliber, so I best restrain myself now!!

My wife wanted a little pocket pistol. I traded my '96 for a Beretta model 70 in .380 auto. Not sure I got the best end of the trade but the wife is quite pleased.
In the market for another 6.5 swede though in something a bit more modern. If you can't shoot a swede well then you ought not to be shooting a rifle at all.

Interesting link that offers an explanation for the superiority of the swede as a hunting caliber.

I have a M41 Sniper ( not the Modified M41B) and love it!!!!

Don't get me started on the 6.5 for the love of Pete......

You know it's a scary state of affairs when the Swedes were looking down their Nordic noses at German steel. If I understand correctly, the Swedish Mauser, the Finnish Mosin-Nagant, and the Swiss Schmidt-Rubin all vie for the title of Oh-Sweet-Heaven-How-Accurate-Does-A-General-Issue-Rifle-Need-To-Be Rifle of the Century. But the 6.5x55 definitely takes the cake for ballistic efficiency. You have to keep this rifle. For Sweden.

I owned a m38 Carl Gustafs Husqvarna, it was an amazing rifle that I found hard to put aside. The build quality was incredible for a milsurp rifle that I paid under $250AU for, shot like a drream and absolutley deadly out to longer shooting on, pigs, camel and larger beasts. Unfortunately it has gone on to another swede lover who wanted it more than I did.

I needed funds for my new .270 :p

Hey Doc

I sold it right here in the outback of sunny Australia to a persistent New Zealander. Now I really wish I had hung on to it.

It says something about " an old mil-surp caliber" when Federal decides to load ammo for it in their Gold Medal Match line......

Love to have one, myself.

I saw one yesterday locally for $300. Seemed high until I looked at Gunbrokers and saw what they were going for. I'm going back today to look at it. Anything in particular I should look for?
Thanks guys,
Steve

Oh No.... Now ya have gone and DONE it!!
Just like HI Blades... this Swede stuff is very enticing.... gets ya and does NOT let go!!

I started down my slippery slope with the SAME rifle you are... a matching #'s '96 back in 1986... then a 1938 Husquvarna Swedeheart...then a AG 42 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Rifle_Ljungman_AG42.jpg
and the last addition was a Kimber of Oregon Sporterised M1896 6.5x55mm which I put a Leupold M8 Compact 6x on top of.

Love relaoding the round...used to load a Sierra 100gr HP with 48 grains of IMR4350..Nice!!!

WELCOME to the Swede Fam, Steve!!
(Even tho Both of My Grandparents were from Norway!!)

Had to sell the first one for heating oil - don't really regret that one - winter's winter around here.
The second one had been modded before i got it - didn't shoot nearly as well as the first one - so I had Dayton put one of their triggers in it and new safety .Still only shot about 2.5" groups at 100 meters no mater what ammo or how good/bad a day i was having. So - got one of those lead out electro depositing rigs - my G$# did stuff come out of that barrell! Final result - amazingly furry looking bore that now shot anywhere from 4.5" to 6" groups. Not the first or the last time I went after a problem until i made it worse.
These are also very expensive rifles to shoot - you will spend a ton of money on ammo because they are so pleasant to shoot and so challenging because you know the cart. is capable of better accuracy than anything you can do.
6.5X55's,7X57's and 7mm-08's are simply a pleasure.
