Im looking into getting the Lrg Chinese Folder (Lum) while theyre still out there. Something about the shape of the knife is very intriguing to me. Would like some feedback from those who have one to see if its worth the money. Wont mind some pics as well.

I don't have the large, but I carry the nishijin and zdp versions occasionally. I don't have any pictures on me unfortunately, but the smaller version makes a pretty good edc blade. I don't know if it's worth the money they go for nowadays though. You can get a lot of other good knives for ~$175.

I carried a green alumite serrated lum as my dress knife for the summer. Blade shape is really useful and the handle is incredibly comfortable. I fully recommend it.

The large Lum Chinese is one of my favourite large (>3.5 inch blade in my world) knives. It is a great slicer but it takes a LOT of space in your pocket. I prefer the Large to the "standard" Lum Chinese. Old photo but the knife is still the same ....

That is one issue i foresaw with having that knife in pocket.. still deciding if I want to spend the $135 on it...

Anybody excited for the Lil Lum that's being released this year?

Me! The price seems a tad steep to me though, considering the full-size nishijin sprint was going for $100 a couple years ago. I'm not a huge fan of the G10, so this might be a knife to get custom scales for. I'm also glad to see that it will be compatible with third-party deep carry clips, as the clip is one of my biggest gripes with the normal sized Lum.

The lum I carry is the tanto folder.

I also have and occasionally carry my Spyderco model C-46 Lum Tanto Folder>> the one I have is a black bladed model, CE with ATS-55. The blade has a super thick spine>> even thicker than the one on my beloved C-60 Ayoob model. The thick Spine is something I like on a folder and it gives me confidence to do rough cutting jobs.

I never really liked Tanto designs until I got a Spyderco Lum Tanto model. The more streamlined point on the LUM Tanto folder I've found to be far more functional for EDC uses. I've also owned a couple of the Chinese LUM models. The Lum fixed blade ( the newer VG-10 model) has been on my "want list" for some time now. The Spyderco LUM models are among many of the older Spyders that I tend to like the best of all their models. Most all of the LUM Spyderco models were made in what I like to refer to as "The Golden Era Of Spyders" 1998-2003>> any Sprint Run from that era always of extreme interest to me.

I have the regular Lum Chinese Knife in nishijin and I love it! It is my go-to dress/tuxedo knife. I love the look, shape, and utility of the blade. Very classy and unique, in my opinion. I will repeat was said above, that the inherent design of this knife means that it does take up a lot of real estate in the pocket. While the regular Lum is a medium to small knife, the tallness of the knife when closed, from spine to the back of the handle is quite considerable when taking into account the blade length. It is definitely harder to carry than some big knives that I have. I carry it because I love the design and looks. The large Lum Chinese Knife would be huge, in my opinion. The thickness isn't an issue at all, nor would be the overall length. Being able to get your hand in your pocket because of how tall it is closed is a definite consideration. I don't fault you at all for wanting this knife for any reason, but do know that if you plan to carry in your front pocket, it will not be as comfortable as some other choices.

Hope this helps. :)

Yes, be aware of the pocket encroachment, which is especially significant for the large Lum folder.

Best to put your mitts on one to see how it feels in the hand; expectations from images and the visual aesthetic may not correspond to one's tactile experience.

Feels good, and handles well, but the design is atypical enough that it is best to hold it/use it for a fair assessment. I know a couple of friends who rejected it on looks, but were delighted when they tried it. The design grew on them like an ugly puppy which becomes adorable.

Can't wait for the Lil Lum, although I agree that it should have had CF or similar handles as opposed to ho-hum black G-1O. This one, if it's as great as I think it will be for EDC pocket carry, may demand custom scales.

Unfortunately I don't own the big one. But this is often a companion when I want something a bit classy!

Lum Chinese Nishijin

I find the large Chinese lum very slim in profile despite its overall size. It feels great in my hand, and is one of the best spyderhole-opening knives I have used- very satisfying to flick by thumb. The regular Lum is much more awkward to open (for me). But the regular wins on design as the large looks odd at a certain angle. I only carry in side tool pockets, I hated even a techno in a front pocket. So I can't comment on on that aspect.

I really like the large; but I'm surprised the prices are rising. They never seemed to sell when I was watching (around $100).

So since we already on the topic, does anyone know of a deep carry clip that's compatible with the regular sized Lum Chinese? I'd carry mine a lot more if they carried a little more discreetly.

I would love a deep carry clip for the Lum Chinese. Perhaps a group buy with someone who could fabricate these would do it.

man this thread inspired me to carry my Lum Nishijin yesterday. I always forget how awesome this knife is in hand. and buttery smooth deployment. Carries super easy because of its slimness too.

I've thought about designing one, but the screw arrangement is pretty strange. Maybe I'll get around to it one day and make a prototype or something.
