I dunno about the NW part of the state, but Arkansas is a hotbed for knifemakers - especially bladesmiths. Here's the link to the member list of the Arkansas Knifemakers Association. This'll be a good place to start:

Arkansas is also home to the American Bladesmith Society. Check out the member links on the ABS site:

You can also pick up a copy of the Knives 2001 Annual, which lists knifemakers by state.

I'm in NE Arkansas and wish I lived in the NW since you have access to several in and around the NW area. AG Russell is in the area and should be able to give you several names. There are more around the Little Rock area and even more in the southern part of the state. If you really want to make contact, go to the Arkansas Custom Knife Show coming up in February in Little Rock.

Bob Dozier, AG Russell, Newt Livesay are all at your door step AG is in springdale and Livesay is in Siloam Springs. Look up a guy by the name Kevin Krein. He grinds for AG. I think Dozier is in Springdale too.

Hope this helps
