Are there any idea about when the Busse Folder will be made and sold?

BTW, I want to notify I and a friend of mine were successful to import a Busse BM-E in Italy. It could be the first BM in Italy at all. Many Thanks Andy!

Sure would be nice to get my grubby hands on one prior to my winter vacation over in the UAE. I'm a betting that 90+ days over in the sandbox would be a good test for a Nuclear folder....hint hint

However, knowing my luck they will become commercially avaible upon my return.

Winter vacation in Dubai? I spent 1½ years in Dhahran, KSA working for a US defense contractor, and while Dubai has to be a lot better than the Eastern Province, I wouldn't have picked it for a vacation!

Seriously, I hope you aren't restricted to base. Before the men in the training mission and no-fly-zone support were moved from Dhahran after the Khobar bombing, they were not allowed to leave base. Except one time. The Consular asked expats if they would sponsor a serviceman for Thanksgiving dinner. I'm not sure how many got sponsored, but it was only for a few hours. And it was the first time in several months any of them had left the base.

I'd be sure to pick up some Marine TufCloth. The salt air there, even with the low humidity, will definitely give it a test. That, and the sand...

Hey, maybe you could do a camel test on it? If it can handle a camel's spit, that's got to be good, right?

If you have the chance, rent one of the dune buggy/Jeep contraptions and go for a spin in the dunes. It's an awesome sense of freedom to go flying over a dune, not knowing how you'll land! If you do, watch out. I managed to land perfectly upside down once and had to dig my head out of the sand while hanging upside down. That hurt.

Anyway, thanks for serving and shalom,
Ray

Whoops - required knife content: I've been looking forward to the nuclear folder as well!

Please give us an update Andy.

Shrike9. You have luck just like me. The folder would go on sale the day after I left.

I'll be living/working at someplace called Al Dhafra wherever that little patch of sand is. First though I get to visit Vegas and TASS school (Oh that's so painfull having to make the trek to Vegas

)

I've been unable to find anything worth a crap out about the UAE over the web and have not yet found anybody that's ever been there. I've been told they are locked down now (Threatcon C) and nobody knows how long it will last. However, you get 3 beers once a week and sometimes even twice a week. Crap I'd have killed for a beer my last time in KSA!!!!

My last trip to the KSA was when Khobar Towers went BOOM. (Departed the Kingdom 4 July 1996, best 4th of July I've ever had

) Before the bombing we could travel all over the place and that really helped time pass. Besides I like experiencing what different countries have to offer, it really makes one glad to return to the good old US of A!!!!

I'm planning on taking a Endura, CQC-7, Livesay Air Assualt & Woo, possibly a Rinaldi Warhawk and a Busse Basic #9. However, I'd be more than happy to leave the Endura & possibly the CQC-7 home to abuse and misuse a nuclear folder. Was planning on also taking a TufCloth but ifin I can find a Marine TuFCloth will take that instead.

How much more grovelling do I need to do before sombody has pitty on me and a Busse folder finds it's way into my greedy hands for some "testing"

From a good source I talked to at Knob Creek, the folder is still in the final decision stage. They are registering certain aspects of the mechanics, and when that is accomplished, they will get the word out. There are 4 designs up in the air right now. Should be well worth the wait...

Shrike9 -

You're absolutely right about appreciating the USA! You weren't staying at Al Rushaid Village were you? I called that place home for my stay there and I know several of the pilots with families did. Too bad you left so early after the bombing - we had barricades all over the compound and Aramco, not to mention full car searches, usually with dogs, for months.

There was beer all over the western compounds in Dhahran - expats brewing it with water jugs in bathtubs. Got real interesting when one fermented too long and blew. Man, what a mess. It wasn't talk about out loud, but there was an un-written understanding that, as long as it stayed in the compounds nothing was said or done. I had the chance to buy a fifth of Jack Daniels, too - for a measly $267! I passed.

Be sure to let us know how they stand up to the UAE. I've got a #9 so I'll be curious to hear.

ThatMGuy - Thanks for the info!

The biggest question about the folder I have, is whether the blade with be thinned out some. 1/4" in a folder seems way too thick. 3/8" sounds about right, without giving up it's toughness.

Man, waiting for a Busse folder really reminds me of Christmas as a boy.

I'm new to the Busse forum and have little experience with Busse knives. In the summers I work with Chris Janowsky in Tok, Alaska at the World Survival Institute and he swears by Busse blades. I really like well made folders and currently use a Buck/Strider while cheating death and doing intercepts in a large section of eastern CT. The more I read this forum, the more I wanna see this folder. My imagination runs wild.....

(Codeman),I was in Dhahran at the K.F.M.M.C as an advisor to MODA in emergency medicine in '92. We had alot of freedom and brewed or "sidique" also. I hung out with these two Air Force majors who were in charge of the radar sites for the eastern part of Saudi. There was no shortage of alcohol and I remember one of them dropping a gallon bottle of J.D on the ground during a party.
