Any of y'all like a good qama?

Howdy folks,

I was wondering what everyone thought about the qama shortsword.
Personally, it's one of my favorite big dagger/short sword designs of all time.
Utterly functional and very sturdy . . . . .

Unfortunately, it is impossible to find a good reproduction qama right now. One has to go custom to get anything nice (the antiques are rapidly increasing in price).
I wonder what the kamis could do with a basic, large qama design?
If it was as well made as my HI 18-inch Chitlangi, it would be terrifyingly potent . . . . .

HI makes a sword that would be similar in function called the Manju Shree. It shows up occaisionally in Yangu's deals. I thin the Kamis could do a fine job on a Qama. It would be right up their alley.

Here's the Manju Shree.

Actually, some of us Rennaissance Faire Germans used to buy the Windlass qama for what, 20$ ? and turn it into the short Katzbalger, a short sword favored by the Landesknecht mercenaries of Germany and Switzerland.
(basically just a short, sharp, double-edged cleaver that was terrifying in close quarters combat)

We'd rip of the handles, round the point, and stick on a katzbalger quillon and handle.

It was a good deal in the end. You had to get a blacksmith to forge the guard for you (simple S shape) but considering the investment and amount of effort, you got a really nice katzbalger for not much.

Danny,

Do any of your Rennaissance Faire German guys have a Landsknecht sword for sale? Looking for an old one, not a repro.

I only knew one guy who had originals and his werent for sale.
When you say "landesknecht sword" Do you mean the zweihander or the katzbalger?
(one is really long and the other pretty short)
However, Daniel Watson at Angel Sword usually has contacts to find just about any original type.
An original katzbalger might be a tad pricey.
They arent ethnographic weapons, they are classic historical weapons of Europe.
Pricey $$$

I like that one!

I guess I have been on the forum too intermittently to catch one of those . . . .
