i recently discovered mikov knives, and i really like the classy designs of the auto's and leverlocks.
any thoughts on performance?
are they reliable,good blade steels?
don't know anything of 'm only that i love the designs.

I saw 8-10 years ago in Czech Republic a Mikow auto. It was a cheap model, but I was impressed about the spring, the lock and design. It was a good auto and I suppose that the new models with good steel are pretty good.

yeah, thats was one thing i heared, that they have great locks.
just wondering about blade quality and such, anyone ever used one of them?
how are they for SD?
i just love the design of a dagger auto

Several years ago I bought a dozen of them from the manufacturer
direct. I had read that they were a very good auto for the money.
Well I was not happy with the knife at all. The springs are very week
and when you fire it the blade opens about half way. I gave several
of them away to friends and I still have about six of them put away somewhere.

wow, thats bad. im hearing two extreme opinions right now, lets see what others have to say too

I have one, my only complaint would be that the blade shakes a bit, its not going anywhere it just wiggles a little. After a while of firing it, the blade only went out half way, so i removed the spring, cleaned it and the inside, and re-oiled and then it appears to be perfectly fine. I really like the simplicity of the construct, you can just take the spring out with a skinny tool of any kind, and then just push it back in. Also, it was only 55$ on www.pvk.com

Steel is not very good, similar to 420 or SAK steel. What I feel as sort of an issue is that pins are not lined with scale material (pins are above scale material so that you cen feel them).
Also do not expect great level of fit and finish. Expect not completly even grinds etc.

And as a side openers they do not have top (false) edge sharpened so the dagger-like profile is quite pointless then.

That's about all.

I have one. Weak spring, poor fit and finish. I don't recommend the one I have. They may make better ones. Honestly I don't know.

If you had posted this in the automatic knife section you would have gotten different reviews. Mikov is one of the best low cost autos. If it's only opening 1/2 way that is because you are holding it wrong. That will happen with almost any leaf spring knife. It's called holding it "limp wristed".

Leroy Thompson had an article in Tactical knives a few issues back and gave a favorable rating on Mikov autos.

I have the cheapest one,had it for over 2 years. Its been snaped open a lot. No probs. It opens quick, locks tight, blades still tight. The only bad thing is when it opens, its real loud.As in SNAP!!

Quality is definitely improving - most of the QC issues were solved long time ago. The pins are above the scale surface on purpose - they were designed like that. Since the blades are now made in Germany, the grind is no issue anymore. And if you do not like dagger blade, you have other choice - for example the utility blade:

And if you do not like the 420 blade, check RWL34 or Damascus.

No everything is perfect - but that is also true with Microtech... right?
