Anyone ever had a Kershaw assisted open knife open in your pocket?

I just wondered if anyone has ever had an assisted open knife ever open accidentally in your pocket?

I have never had my Leek or Scallion do that but I have begun to carry the Scallion loose in my pocket instead of clipped.

Do I have anything to worry about?

I don't want to use the little lock at the blade tip as it's a pain to keep closing and opening.

nope. over 1 year I carry it every day. I suppose this little ones can if you sit down just right or have a bunch of stuff in your pocket. Thats probably why thay have a lock on it.

no but i did have a protech tr-1 open in my pocket when i was go karting... i didnt get hurt though... got rid of the knife though :p

wow how did that happen? I love the TR knives. I have a Runt III myself that I love.

But I've never had any auto or assisted opener open in my pocket, safety or none.

I had a leek open in my pocket on christmas day, when I was using it every 5 minutes to open something. I was amazed that I didn't cut myself when I reached into my pocket and felt an open knife. I've been using the little lock ever since. I still love my leek . . but overall I now prefer non-assisted knives.

I use the lock every time and never think about it. And my Leek has never opened on it's own, after 15-16 months on EDC. Like firearms safety, if you teach yourself safe habits, no-one gets hurt unless it's intentional!

Hi everyone. I'm new here and probably should lurk for awhile, but fools rush in. I have had my scallion open up on one occasion, but no harm done; they won't open all the way, of course, but still could cause problems. I suspect that's why they have the safety, and you disregard at your own peril.

I love this knife but as with all things there is room for improvement. Hopefully the next generation will combine the safety with the actuator (similar to an articulated trigger on a pistol) to reduce the chance of a hole in your pants.

the mini mojo has got this. it is a much better choice, but im still torn on it cuz if they put that on the leek, it would loose its simplicity.

...or mabey not, o, what the hell, kershaw, see if you can put one of those mojo safetys on the leek!

...but im guessin it would make it that much more expensive.

My Chive opened in my pocket several times, then I tried the little tip lock. Fumbling around with the tip lock, then messing around to get it into position to open just got to be more effort to open it than it was worth. Sheesh, I can "deploy" my slipjoints faster than what it took to open the Chive. Besides, I can open my non-assisted knives that just have thumb studs plenty fast. For me personally, I just don't have a need for an assisted opener. My opinion is that they are kind of gimmicky anyhow.

I have both my chive and my bump opened in my pocket. I wonder if it was because I wasn't clipping the knives to my pocket though and so it had room to move a bit and got into a position that somehow put pressure on the index finger flipper and opened up the blade. The only thing that got cut was my pants so far by chive fortunately. So yeah, I think a safety lock is good to have.

I had a Chive open in my pocket while clipped there. It seems that the lock had been set before the knife was closed, and thus, when the knife closed, it closed only to where the end of the knife hit the lock. It then opened in my pocket halfway so the edge was exposed. I took off most of the skin on my pinkie knuckle and didn't notice it until I wiped my nose and noticed that my hand was covered in blood. I never carried the Chive much to begin with, and I carry it less now.

I'm starting to see why Kershaw put the lock there. However I would love the Scallion so much more if it was un-assisted. I wish I could un-assist it and have it still work properly.

I would rather open my Scallion with the thumbstud manually.

Not all kershwa AO have safety locks though. Bump doesn't have it (and it's not a cheap knife), spec bump doesn't have it and black out also has no safety lock.

If offset a speed-safe knife? Does it have a safety lock?

I used a rainbow Leek for many months, tip down, never put the safety on, and it never opened accidentally. None of my autos ever opened accidentally either, except once my LCC did, but I think the mechanism is a bit faulty, so I don't carry it any more (none have ever opened by an accidental firing).

I personally really dislike assisted openers, so, no, I have never had one open in my pocket.......because I do not own one.

Happened to me with the Leek and also with a CRKT M16-13SF. Poked my finger on each occurence so the injury was no big deal, but I sold the knives off.

I've carried a Kershaw Blackout every day for three years and it's never opened accidentally.

I carry it clipped in my right front pocket, usually jeans.

My Chive used to open up on me every now and then and I hated the position of the safety lock. I switched to a Kershaw Centofante for my tiny knife needs and much prefer it to the Chive. The spring feels tighter when it's closed and the safety lock is just below the index finger opener so it's faster and easier to open and close the knife.
