Anyone ever use a paroir?

I don't remember ever seeing one of these. One showed up in one of my utube subscriptions. The guy was using one to rough out spoon blanks.


With a google search, these seem to be used primarily for carving wooden shoes.

Never used one, but I've seen them before and I think they're pretty dang cool!
 
I have never used one but have seen some videos online like you. Last time I was at a flea market I frequent, I saw one for 15 bucks. It was labeled "tool" I don't think the seller had any idea what it was. I passed on it but if it's still there next time I might offer them 10 and see if it some home with me.
 
I remember years ago visiting Holland Michigan during the tulip festival which was settled by Dutch immigrants. There was a fellow there demonstrating and making wooden shoes with one. There still is a tulip festival there but I don't know if there are any more wooden shoe makers.
