i just bought this custom made micarta-scaled fat-boy modified tanto. fell in love at first sight; a might bit expensive for me, but after Sat. i have to cut up the credit cards anyway! 4 in. blade, overall 7 3/4 in. i'm amazed at how perfectly balanced this baby feels in my hand, like it was made just for me. anyone know anything about Ricky Fowler? he seemed to have some nice works out at his table, just wondering about the history of the maker..

Kelt,
I don't own a Ricky Fowler, wish I did. The first Knife magazine I ever saw, had an article on Ricky, and the Perfect Fall Hunter, there was a full page picture of his #146 hunter with stag scales. The article also said, he was known for his large number of standard designs,(Ricky says that's about 300 now) fast delivery (2-3 weeks) quality work, affordable prices. His was the first brochure I sent for, and he always sends a reminder when he's at a show in the area. Great guy, real pro.
Funny, the next custom maker whose work really caught my eye was Ed Fowler, now there is a real character. I'm sorry he didn't make it to this years show, heard he was real busy at his ranch.
I don't have that article on Ricky Fowler handy, I know it was Tactical Knives, June '98, I think.

Ricky Fowler makes a nice using knife. The only problem I have with him is that he charges extra for a sheath when you buy a knife. Very unusual. If you like his stuff check out also Ron Gaston or Russ Easler.

Kelt,
If your still looking, you may also want to check out the Jones Brothers (Phillip and Barry) new web site, just saw a very pretty drop point stag hunter over there, looks like a flat ground, ATS 34, nice price! Look for one of their posts for their site address.

I have known Rick & his wife for years. I have admired his work for as long as I have known him. His quality is great. I have heard only good things from his clients.

Rick's a very nice guy. I bought my first knife from him last summer... his 7" Indian Belt Knife, which I *really* like. Not a blade style I'm accustomed to, but it feels nice in the hand.

Since then, I've bought his machete (14", 1/4" O1), and had him custom make a 16", 1/8" machete for me, and I've bought a little bitty 2 1/2 blade knife from him. All of them, even the custom machete, were delivered with 10 days.

He's very accomodating, and his work is first rate.
