Anyone Get the Spartan-Harsey Fighter or Nessmuk?

A "fighter"?

When our son was in a serious training cycle at 29 Palms prior to "surging" into Iraq in 2004, I bought him a series of serious knives suitable for a warfighter about to go into harm's way in a hot combat zone. Several were genuine fighting knives; an Ek dagger, a Darrel Ralph designed folding dagger, a Randall #1"All Purpose Fighter" and others.

What he took: The Randall and a Chris Reeve "Green Beret". When he deployed a second time, he only took the CRK because it was better at doing the things he really needed to do . . .which was not fighting. Later on, safe at home, he said that the CRK seemed to be more rugged and that lacking that knife, he would have taken a Ka-Bar "Extreme Survival", a modern iteration of the iconic USMC issued knife from WW-II, Korea and Viet Nam. . . .for the same reason. . . .and at 1/3 the price.

Reexamine why you want a "fighter". If it is to have and hold at home . . .well OK, I get that. But if you think you need it for self-defense in a civilian setting think again. Think about where you are going, what you are doing and who you are with.

Wow, way to not answer the question.

Cool story, but “fighter” is just the name of the knife…

Are we not allowed to like the Nessmuk either because none of us are actually George W Sears?

The Nessmuk looks intriguing. Price is good, but a bit high for plastic handles IMO. Oh well.
Yeah, that's why I was asking for anyone's opinions that's handled them. They're made by Kabar and I assume it's the same handle material as the Becker line but textured.

I assumed you were talking about the CONDOR nessmuk? Or are we talking about the Kabar Kephart???

Thanks. I actually didn't realize Kabar made a nessmuk.

In the last paragraph of that post, I acknowledge that there is merit to just owning a knife to have and hold for the appreciation of it. I have a few antique cameras that fall into that category. . . .one is a Leica M-3, another is a Roliflex. The same goes for a few pocket watches that live in a drawer.

The Harsey fighter is no different than a gazillion other "survival" knives that are used every day for a ton of generic tasks - "fighting" being the least of them.

Don't get so hung up on the name.

Probably just gonna get the Nessmuk anyway but wanted to see if anyone has bought/handled one yet? Curious to hear people's opinion on how the injection molded handle feels.
I have really wanted the spartan/ Kabar Nessmuk since I first saw them on Shot show coverage from KnifeCenter on YouTube a couple months ago. I know they are available for purchase at Spartans website for $190 right now, but I'm waiting for them to drop at either DLT trading or KnifeCenter for $144 at the end of this month or begining of next.

By the way VorpelSword is one of the reasons I spend such little time in blade forums. Some guy is always around to tell everyone he knows better then everyone else for no dang reason. You can't say Spartan "Fighter" without some ding dong giving a lecture. You didn't even say you wanted the fighter, just the Nessmuk

If it becomes available at that price I'll def buy to try it out.

I am absolutely in for a Spartan Nessmuk. Like you, it was DCA's SHOT show coverage that sealed it for me. I'll be waiting for KC to get them, and then I'm going to grab one.

Both models are available now at KnifeCenter for less than the prices quoted here.
Holy Cow.....

I have no need, but Wow.

The design of the handle looks interesting?
Has anyone handled it yet?

As a new maker, I might Have to buy one purely as a learning experience

I got the fighter one recently. might be same materials as becker scales but feels more solid and heavier and has a texture to it. smooth multiple lines. pretty comfortable and feels much grippier than becker scales....course these fighter scales have shape to them to lock in your hand better. it's a decent knife for the price....
