It is a small pack. I bought it to work with a larger day pack that I carry everyday. I was always tranfering gear from one bag to another so I tried to make a modular system that would work for me. This is like a maxi-kit that I pull from my 3-day/get home bag. It works pretty well in that function but doesnt fit as well as I hoped inside the bag. I wish it was a little wider and thiner. I attach a water bottle to one side and and a pouch on the other. It is a pretty minimall kit. If I was going to use it alone I would buy the next size up.

Matt,

Thanks for posting the info and the picture!

Yeah, some nylon gear tends to look a lot bigger than it actually is in a lot of advertisements and reviews online. Use smaller folks, makes the bags look bigger!

Still, the design and functionality of Maxpedition gear, I really like. It is all modular and that's a big selling point.

Hey Don,
I think if your looking into one of these style packs, Like OAk, I sugest going a size up to the Lunada. When I got it, I was under the impression it was a remora, and It looked scale to me, so in other words these packs are going to be smaller than you in-vision them.

Here is my Lunada, and what it holds. I think I have around 7 pounds of gear in it, perfect for a day hike or a walk around the city. Plus its cool looking.:D

Fonly,

I think you have done the impossible! You have changed my mind! Can you get me a picture of both sides of the bag please?

Thanks!

Don have you checked Milspec Monkey? He has alot of pics when he reviews stuff. I am considering a Malaga myself, as I know the Lunada & Remora are too small for my liking.

Scroll down until you see the Lunada. (I don't understand why he doesn't seperate each item instead of having 2 long pages of info.

Keep in mind when looking at the pics of him wearing stuff that he is one small dude.

Also, the straps arn't the same. They both have the main strap, but the one on the lunada is a lot better made, more padding and over all better. It holds my HTC touch in the bottom sleve. It also has a Strap that come around the other side, should you want to to fit tigher. It can be set-up what ever way you want, and you dont have to use the second strap, it can be removed is the single strap is your preference.

Let me know if these dont do it for ya, I can take some extra pics of it on for a better reference point. Im 6' 230 lbs. And its not too small on me, but it was like I said what I imagined the Remora to be, when it was really the lunada, so the remora would have been too small for me.

Fonly,

Thanks! That's just fine, that's what I was looking for!

CSSIMS,

Yeah, I know! I read the review on the Remora and made up my mind but I didn't enlarge the picture with the handgun because I can't get a carry permit in my state so I generally put the IFAK-Blowout Kit in that area, anyway. Then, I went back and looked at the pics again this morning and saw how large that H&K USP was in his hand and I was like, damn! That's a small bag!

For every day banging around, I use the original Maxpedition Fatboy Versipac. I tried the Jumbo but it didn't sit well with me although my son and brother and sister in law love their's. It just doesn't do it for me.

But when I have to do a lot of walking and whatnot and don't want to step up to a day pack, I need something in the middle and I didn't want to go with a full-sized gearslinger because to me, they are just a daypack with one shoulder strap and that just isn't me.

I keep flinging the Fatboy up over my shoulder and making it ride in the center of the back all of the time so I figured the Remora would be the ticket because that is where it will ride and stay, the way I want it to without screwing around repositioning it all of the time. Then Fonly posted about the Lunada...

Thanks guys!

Thats EXACTLY what I was thinking when I got the pack. And im glad their was a mixup with the shipping, the Remora would have been just too small, it doesnt have the upper pocket. Which is great for batteries, chap stick, sharpeners, candies, keys all that stuff.
I also noticed the Remora doesn't have the same webbing as the Lunada on the medium pouch on the front. It can hold flash lights, knives, Anything thats handy to have elastic straps to hold stuff.

I went with the Malaga since it can hold notepads and magazines etc. Great bag, and not too big to carry comfortably. I got the Lunada for my fiancee since she doesn't carry a full-blown survival kit in hers. :p

We are all trying to juggle maximum capacity with minimum footprint. I love the original Fatboy Versipac. Sometimes it just isn't enough but the Pygmy Falcon II is too much.

Man I wish they would make the Lunada with a bottle holder on the side like the jumbo fatboy. Its an awesome lookin pack.

I have the Colossus and don't find it too big but that is me.
Great bags. You sure can't go wrong with them.

I know eh, its not bad sense I can carry a 24 Oz camelback bottle in the main compartment, but it would still be nice to have a dedicated pouch on the out side.

So the Lunadas main compartment is only 3 inches deep? Will two steel GUYOT's or two Nalegene bottles fit without it expanding too much to interfere with the front compartments?

I have a 24 oz camelback bottle in their now, and I haven't had any problems. I also have 100' of para cord and a stuffed first-aid kit, I guess is really depends on how much you have, but for and edc bag its worked fine.

And its not really 3" deep, thats just with the pockets stuff, like 1-2" of stuff in the other two pockets in the main pouch.

Fonly,
My GUYOTS and MaxP Nalgenes are all 3 1/2" accross the bottom.
Can you measure accross the bottom of your 24oz Camelback bottle and also the height of it? I have the picture of your water bottle in it so with measurements, it will help me make my decision.

Could you fit two of those side by side in the main compartment?

If you want to carry a Nalgene or Guyot I would recommend Maxpedition's Mini Rollypoly dump pouch attached to the MOLLE/PAL webbing (they fit perfectly and you preserve your interior bag space).
