I found an incredible deal on some Nike SFB boots at a local Ross store. I believe they are last years model (Can be seen here http://store.nike.com/us/en_us/pd/special-field-boot/pid-438376) They were extremely comfortable and lightweight. The feel and sole pattern are similar to lightweight running shoes. I didn't jump on them because I wanted to do some research first. But I may go back and grab them since they were only $40.

If anyone has these, I'd love to hear thoughts. Thanks.

All the reviews at Nike seemed to be positive. $40 for good shoes is a win in my column. If you don't like them after a try, I'm sure you can resell or donate.

Good point. I was only concerned about how durable they are, but for the price, I should be able to at least get 40 bucks worth of wear out of them.

A couple of kids my daughter is in Rotc with bought those before they were not allowed with uniform wear anymore and wore them out quickly. They seemed to come apart quicker than the other boot choices. My daughter tried some on but went with Danner's instead. You might keep an eye out on the Danner break room for sales, they happen fairly often. Last pair of boots she got were 190 on sale for 55. Keep in mind also that everyone will be phasing out desert tan boots for the new shade the army is going to. Going to be a lot of sales.

I have some Danner USMC hot weather boots which I love. They have been the best boots I ever bought. They are quite heavy though, and the light weight of the Nikes was what I really liked about them.

The Danner TFX are very light and go on sale pretty often too. Much lighter than most of the Danner line. Thats what she wears in the field all the time, in my time period it was plain old black combat boots, not many options other than jungle boots lol.

corrected the model

Thanks for your help cricketdave! I am not in the military, but spend a lot of time in desert terrain.

No problem I foresee a lot of really good closeout deals over the next year as the army transitions to the new uniform and boots. Not to mention the tons of gear that are going to be dumped on the surplus market.

Danner Descenders, nice boots, not tennis shoes. they are from the military line not the tactical crap.

reg price is over 200 I found them for 125 on that river site.

the nikes, 511, Blackhawk, addidass, under armor all seem like throw aways to me.

get a good pair of boots, you only have 2/two feet and they have to last you a life time.

The boots are light and comfy, they give up durability and protection.

They are very similar in comfort to a minimalist running shoe, so if you're used to those the Nikes will be great for you.

Keep in mind that these are designed as an urban assault boot, not a rugged terrain boot.

Hmm, that makes sense. I kick around in some rugged, rock strewn terrain with scrub and thorns. I will stick to my Danners! I may pick up the Nikes for around town and light trails though, they were extremely comfortable.

Garmont makes great boots and not just hiking boots ....I've had my G6's since 02-03 and still kicking after extremely hard use! If your looking for more a minamalist boot bellville has the mini mil series which I believe start at a 7mm drop,5mm drop, and then 2mm for almost barefoot combat boots.
