Anyone have experience with the Hogue Mini RSK MK1-G2 (ie mini Griptillion)?

Lots of great reviews on this Doug Ritter EDC knife, but hard to find one in person. There’s not much on the forum about this one either. I'm considering this or a Benchmade mini Griptillion.

Looks like it's almost identical to the Mini Grip with the main exceptions of:

- 20CV steel
- Taller, thinner, slicier blade
- T8 Hardware
- Slightly longer handle
- Disproportionately big clip
- Courser scales
- Reportedly more consistent QC re: blade centering, lockup, and action

Clip is swappable, but my only specific question/concern is the tall-grind super thin 0.09" blade thickness. Good slicer, but that sounds (and is reported to be) almost too much of a good thing. (Two reviewers reported the edge “folded over” after using to cut cardboard). Anyone here able to comment on this? Anything else to share about this knife? They look AWESOME.

Thank you.

I have one and it's great. The reason they are hard to find is because they are a knifeworks exclusive and that is the only place you can purchase them.

I don't have the mini but I have the full size. Short answer it is a better knife and everything the grip should have been. Just like the Deka is everything the bugout should have been. The action of the axis lock is smoother, the centering is good, better steel (I've used both of mine and I haven't had any rolling or chipping), better handle, and overall just better qc. It's a freaking great knife. I carried mine almost exclusively for a couple months when I got it. Freaking sweet blade. Get one man!

I secone everything anthonycastorena2014 anthonycastorena2014 said.

I love mine, one of my top 3 or 4 most carried knives.. I have also never had any issues with edge rolling (20cv). Granted I wouldn't say that I abuse it, but I cut cardboard, zip ties, as well as food on a cutting board pretty regularly. The grips are pretty coarse under where the pocket clip rests, but they still havent started to tear up my pockets yet, ymmv.. Also never found any issue with the size of the pocket clip imo.

Easily one of the best buys, especially for the price.. I included some pics of my Mini RSK next to the Mini Freek for size comparison.

I have a pile of these because I just keep buying them on the secondary when I see a good price to use as gifts. They're a terrific knife and my default recommendation for a good but still affordable knife. The full size is my go to "chore" knife (if I don't use a fixed blade) so it's seen some pretty hard use without an issue. The mini more just regular user but still no issues to report.

That's reassuring to hear.

Looks like they used the full size Grip clip, which is odd. Are folks using an aftermarket clip on these? What clip do you like on it?

I have the full size. It is everything the BM should have been and is the best bang for buck folder I have come across in a long while. The screw pattern for the clip is a standard BM and Emerson pattern so in theory any BM clip or aftermarket pocket clip with this pattern should fit. Here is mine with an MXG Gear deep carry. I only got it for the color and actually intended it for my Emerson. The Hogue deep carry is really good in its own so I switched it back.

Hmm good timing on this thread, I'm carrying my Mini RSK today for the first time in months.. I always enjoy carrying something I haven't in a while and remembering/re-discovering what a great knife it is!

The Mini RSK wouldn't be my first choice for extended or heavy use (the full-size, on the other hand, is excellent), but for EDC carry & general purpose cutting, they are highly recommendable. The mini RSK is actually just a little bit larger (longer) than the mini Grip and I find that extra length greatly improves overall ergonomics. I have XL/XXL (right on the edge - XL usually fits me, but may be tight depending on brand of glove) and I can get a secure 3 1/2-finger grip on the mini RSK, where the mini Grip has always felt a bit small & awkward to me. The edge has held up well for me and the 20cv seems to behave consistently with other 20CV in my collection; I have not noticed the edge "folding over" at all during my normal use (this goes for the full-size too, which has seen some harder work). The clip is ok, imo.. yes, it's the same as on the full-size, but it doesn't really really feel out of place or unecessarily large to me in person. If I have any complaint, it's that the clip feels a little underwhelming compared to the knife it rides on.. it's just alllmost too thin & flimsy (i've had to bend mine back a time or two to increase retention). I realize this is subjective.. if you don't like the stock clip, any of the aftermarket benchmade-screw-pattern clips should fit. I've toyed with the idea of getting new clips for my RSKs as well, but at the end of the day the stock ones work well enough for me.

Overall.. yes, they are awesome knives! You should get one! I don't think you will be disappointed..

I haven't tried many, I just leave the OEM clip on. I know a lot of people complain about it but I'm honestly not sure why. I do have one that came with an Emerson clip and one with a Lynch deep carry clip. I plan to replace the Emerson one at some point as I don't like the way it feels on this knife. The Lynch clip is fine, but again, I don't feel like it really improves on the stock clip in any meaningful way.
