Anyone have experience with Y-Start folders (JIN02)? Is their "D2" up to snuff?

Here are a few links to* the same knife

(( non-paid dealer limks removed -- deal-spotting ))

It's holiday season and it's time to pick out the cheapest gifts that are worth a damn I can find.

But I'm balking on buying this knife, it's almost too good to be true. Can anyone allay my fears with experience with these knives?

If it's 12cr13mov or whatever the Chinese equivalent of D2 is that's all good if it holds an edge for me. I've got a few "440c" folders that seem to be what they advertise in a similar price range.

I want to believe push me over the edge some one, i'm a sucker for a cheap axis lock and would like to buy some nice stocking stuffers

edit - and a youtube review I found, not much information about it out there. Found a few threads that were old and about different models but not much on this one

If in fact it is D2. More than likely for that price 440a or 12cr.
They look usable for light work.

Well it's not proprietary and the chinese government over produces the raw materials obviously.

The question is do they just slap a stamp on there that is chemically accurate or is the heat treat anywhere near what you would expect from an American using the same steel.

Obviously it's certainly possible they just flat out lied...But I don't see why you would bother with a steel like D2

I've been kicking around the idea of ordering one of these. Doesn't appear to be a clone of anything that I'm familiar with and I rather like the design.

I almost wish it wasn't "d2" though. If they'd stamped it 8cr13mov I'd believe them, but with D2 there's no telling what you're going to get.

Might be better off with a Hootenanny.

Do yourself a favor Juicin, get yourself an Ontario Rat 1 for the same money. Why start with a knife so questionable in terms of materials and integrity....

See what I did there... ;)

I had one of those...Gave it away last Christmas

Well a clone with an axis lock and better steel. I went with this cheap wood paneling option to reduce weight. Made the knife too insubstantial, ended up choosing one with a better handle* material.

The D2 version is like 50 bucks and I'm not putting that in anyones stocking lol

(( deal-spotting ))

That blows the rat 1 out of the water, why make a knife with AUS 8?

The Chinese don't have to respect our ridiculous IP laws

There is nothing immoral or illegal about any knife in china made that way

If you're going to whine about abuse of intellectual property, you should probably spend a little time thinking about it before you just spout off and embarass yourself.

No "knives are special" is not a rational defense of your beliefs...Everything you're using to browse this site is built on "stolen" IP. If Americans can't make a better knife than the Chinese for the same price they don't deserve to get paid. Welcome to capitalism pinkos

What do you think Americans made before we had the best education system on the planet? We copied other peoples stuff

So you're not getting the knife?

Again

I don't have to justify it

Look at your pc/phone

It has a lot more stolen tech than an axis lock, pinko

edit - your ignorance of the world arond you is not a defense

So you're not getting the knife?

The thread is a few hours old buddy

The knife ain't going anywhere

As far as I can tell no one owns the knife, or will admit to it. I'd like to some one who has carried the thing

I'm getting ready to make it my personal mission to embarrass anyone who trashes these sorts of knives. On a forum while using a computer the balls to say such things...The hypocrisy is palpable

Ridiculous. Did you start this thread to "ask" about a knife or preach anti-americanism?

The Chinese may not have to respect our IP laws. But posters on Bladeforums should respect our rules. Read up on deal spotting. We don't allow links to vendors who don't support us. We can remove them from our discussions.
