Anyone have the Victorinox Minichamp?

I am a new owner, but I carry it with me everywhere on my keychain. It replaced the Alox Classic. So far so good.

In a pinch I would rub a can against concrete.

I carry an older version on my keys daily. It doesn’t have the cap lifter/Philips screw driver.

It really has everything it needs. I have full size SAK’s in the house and car that I can get to if the need for a can opener arises and I’m typically less than a five minute walk from my car.

If I plan on being further than that, and have a can with me, I take an additional knife or tool.

A P38 carried with the MiniChamp would be another option.

The wharncliffe blade is thin and takes a very sharp edge. It’s at the correct end for use if you keep your keys or a fob on the ring. The main blade being where you find the main blade on a Classic SD, can be a little cumbersome if you have a key ring full of keys and tools.

Scissors are my most used tool on the MiniChamp. The cuticle pusher being the least used.

Short story - It’s a Classic SD with an additional blade, orange peeler/blister pack opener and now, a bottle opener.

I had one for a couple of months then gave it to my daughter. I found it had 3 tools I didn't use and that size blade is narrower than I prefer.

That was the problem I had with the executive. I didn't really like the orange peeler that I had no use for, and the tapered nail file tip was not as useful as the SD tip of the classic. After my love affair/infatuation with the executive, I ended up going back to the classic for the same reasons the classic was my carry of over 20 years. With the classic in its keyring sheath and the P-38 and quato in my wallet, I can cover a lot of situations. If I need a dedicated blade for larger things like food, the Victorinox florist works for that.

I dig it. The Alox version comes in at about the thickness of a cellidor rambler, so that's nice. After my three favorite tools to have in an SAK (scissors, cap lifter, nail file), 4th is a dedicated box/package opener, which the Minichamp has in the cut&picker/orange peeler/whatever blade. I could do without the ruler and the coke bump spoon, but they don't bother me being there. The Vagabond and Mate, which I really like as well, have all of the prior without the latter.

I put a little Rovyvon light on mine which doubles as a clip. Together this package packs a good bit of utility for the size.

Where I live there are more or less no cans that requires a can opener. In the rare occasion (not more then once or twice a year) I'm in need of one I'll be in the kitchen where we still have a full size can opener.

Interesting vid about the history and original uses of the tools:

Great video.

He did neglect to mention that the combination Phillip's screwdriver/caplifter tool is magnetized, to help prevent small screws from being lost.

I actually use the cuticle pusher as a light-duty prying blade and box opener (such as boxes of food, with thin cardboard, like cereal boxes). Its slightly curved surface even aids in its usefulness for that purpose. In that light, the cuticle pusher sees a good amount of use.

The smaller-sized SAK I still carry the most is still my Executive, but my Alox Minichamp sees a good amount of use around the house.

I have Alox Minichamp and it is cool and beatiful tool but from utility perspective I prefer Rambler…

I used to carry a Midnite Minichamp II, but I very quickly realised that a lot of it was dead weight. Now I carry a Rambler, and it has everything I need and nothing I don't.
